OT: iPad mini A12 chip -v- A15 chip much difference?
Or should I just wait until they release the MINI with the M2?
Comments
You apple will release an m2 in Sept or 2024?
thanks, doesn't really answer the question though
Its up to you.
I use 2 x ipad 9 and an air 3.
No idea the potential really.
But would probably sell an air 3 and upgrade an ipad 9.
So an ipad 9, along with an air 5 or 6.
Depends what you need.
Ipad life.

single core geekbench 5 score is 1100 for A12, 1593 for A15 and 1866 for M2. so A15 will do ~44% more than A12, & M12 ~17% more than A15. 4 gig ram for A15 vs 3 for A12.
Excellent info and exactly what I was after...appreciate you putting it together in that way. easy to understand!
Just to background a bit - I'll probs get the Lumbeat HipHop drummer (to go with the other 6) and as I use all of them all need to be open (under AUM) on the A12. I think adding one will be the straw, already having issues with existing!
for running multiple IAA sample based apps like Lumbeat the extra 1gig ram in the A15 might make a significant difference. you could use a system status app to see if you are currently lower on ram or cpu. here's one:

thx
Go with the iPad Mini 6th gen with the A15 chip. It's what I currently use and it runs a bit better than my 5th gen iPad Mini. But other advantages are the fact you can use a 2nd gen Apple Pencil that hooks up to the top of the device rather than charges in the lightning port of the Mini 5 just in case you need to use a pencil for smaller UIs or in ProCreate, lol.
Depends on your needs. To be future proof, I would say A15. Specwise there are differences but how they translate to the real world depends on what you’re doing with it.
