My friend Henrik (JX3D) came up with the basic concept for this meme and somehow talked me into doing all the work.. My first collaborative meme, as it were, I guess. And no, I don't do other people's meme ideas for them, even though I did in this case, so don't ask me.
And here's the memesplaining cheat sheet notes for anyone scratching their head.. Hint: It's poking fun at the new Wavestate and Opsix "SE" models, which people have complained are just like taking the original synth and plopping it right in the middle of a 61-note keyboard case. Which, it kinda is, actually.
Was kinda hoping you'd grab one of the SEs and make awesome tracks with it, but I'm guessing that's a nope
I was somebody who managed to snag one of those $329 (US market-only) Opsix blow out deals -- only to have my order cancelled! So I guess me and Opsix were destined to be ships in the night, alas.. But both the Opsix and Wavestate are awesome synths! Maybe some day.. But I would actually prefer a module or the software version, methinks at this point.
Oh don't worry, I won't. You're a very prolific musician who makes incredible music, not a comedian.
Yeah, this time this meme is very much "on the nose". By this point, I'm guessing you're a "bigger is better" type of person, right? 🤣
And it turned out that what I came up with wasn't even exactly what Henrik had in mind, so he did his own version. But I suspect that you'll be seeing a lot of Korg SE memes out there this week.
Who was it once said that every musician secretly wishes they were a comedian and vise versa. But for better or worse, it is true that humor is probably my main use for the internet, and social media.
There are a lot of people puzzling over certain things about these SE models. Like they aren't cheap, and yet they include a hard road case, which certainly adds to the cost. Nobody includes a case with a synth.. WTF. And then you have things like 128-note polyphony, but do you really need that on a synth that is not multi-timbral? Not to mention the numerous complaints about a seemingly expedient design that doesn't make best use of case real estate. So, in this "case" (pardon the pun) I would say bigger is not better for me. In fact, had my order not been cancelled and I had actually succeeded in getting an original Opsix, I was considering doing the mod that chops off the keyboard and converts it to a module, like Suit & Tie Guy (John Drake) did. What I like to call the "Chopsix." (Yes, another groaner pun! Can I get a rimshot!)
But Suit & Tie Guy was apparently ahead of the curve on that mod, because now they are selling an actual conversion kit.
The whole Opsix experience DID inspire the creation of this "Oops six" meme, which, BTW, I was delighted to find featured on the Bad Gear guy's Youtube video this week!
So despite the occasional heckler, and people who don't appreciate my niche humor, at least SOME .00001% of people seem to get it.
I was one of the lucky customers that got an Opsix during that time, and with a display in good shape - some got units with damaged displays.
This was only a couple of months after I got a Wavestate. My friend convinced me to get one to use as a multi-sample player - load it up with samples of my Subharmonicon or Matriarch for example.
Tall Dog put up a desktop conversion kit for those who really want to get rid of the keyboard but might not have the confidence to completely go it alone. Apparently all sold out now. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/loglow/desktop-conversion-kit-for-wavestate-opsix-modwave
I'll be rooting for you to get one or both synths in whatever form - your music is an inspiration.
Thanks, Governor! I have played around with the software version of Opsix a bit, which apparently sounds just like the hardware. But currently I'll be hunkering down and trying to sort out my Yamaha Reface DX whenever it finally arrives. I was supposed to be an Opsix owner and yet somehow ended up with a Reface DX. Who knew that was to be the particular timeline of the multiverse that I ended up inhabiting.
I will say I do love your explanations of things. You could be a teacher. Also, the two "groaner" puns made me laugh, lol. Yes, I admit I'm more into lame dad humour than dry humour, the latter of which I assume is the humour you're going for in your memes.
I swear I don't work for Korg marketing but they just dropped the prices of their plugin version of Opsix, Wavestate, and Modwave, among others

So @Lady_App_titude I have this meme idea, and I was wondering if you could materialize it for me, for a reasonable fee
