Drum Computer as a wavetable maker - a question (Update - question answered).

I was reading through the user manual for Drum Computer as I try the free demo version and was interested to read that importing an audio file into the wavetable oscillator actually generates a proper wavetable from that file.

I tried it out and then shared the resulting wavetable to save it to my device. From there I imported it into the wavetable oscillator in Drambo and it worked very nicely.

So, a great feature which comes with Drum Computer to nudge me ever closer towards its purchase during the current sale.

Doing a search to see if it had been mentioned here before led me to a comment on page 2 of this thread by @gusgranite

https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/36073/sugar-bytes-drumcomputer-osx-win-and-maybe-soon-ios/p2

The comment - quoting Sugar Bytes - says it’s possible to share wavetables made in Drum Computer with Factory. I can’t find any way to import or share wavetables to Factory though - anyone know if it’s possible, or is that only on desktop?

Wavetable import was removed from Factory on IOS because buggy & wasn’t meant to be there in first place
    - but when in email communication with Nadine from SugarBytes about this she said once Drumcomputer came to IOS (this was before) -it could more likely be added again .
I never got back to her after DrumComputer was released about this - maybe I / we should ?

(Edit - background info is that I was reporting buggy behaviour with wavetable import -
only to be told it wasn’t really meant to work on IOS - & they removed in next update…
or vague memories of similar )

Yeah, it works very nicely as well in the limited testing I’ve done so far. A great bonus feature for creating wavetables for Drambo and your other favourite wavetable synths which allow import.

Once you’ve imported your audio file into the wavetable oscillator, find the generated wavetable in your User bank of wavetables and slide the name to the left to reveal the Share and Delete options.

Thanks for clarifying things @RetroNewb, appreciate it.

Yeah, it seems worth contacting Nadine again - can’t do any harm to ask…well, unless the result is that they remove the ability to share the wavetable from Drum Computer! I’ll go ahead and send her an email. Cheers.

  • very interesting idea, I never thought of exporting the resulting wavetable from DC

  • @drewinnit Here’s what it says in the manual regarding guidelines for the most suitable audio source files.

“Wav files of any kind can be loaded.
In the ideal case you prepared a waveform that performs a shift from low spectrum to high spectrum.
We will detect the included pitch and provide a wavetable containing 16 waveforms, that have been evenly picked out of the whole source waveform.
The resulting wavetables will be auto-saved into a user folder that will be generated.
After 32 wavetables, the next user folder will be created (user 1, user2 etc).”

  • This wavetable import is giving me lots of ideas. I was able to import a Serum wavetable into it.

Heard back from Nadine…not good news unfortunately, import user wavetables into Factory iOS not possible in the foreseeable it seems. iOS structure not ready for it apparently. Shame but there it is.

Thanks for writing to them & reporting back , anyway .

Yes shame , it stopped me buying Factory for Desktop as I now prefer bi-platform compatible synths -
Animoog Z , Virsyn & Icegear (IceWorks ,..whatever) are top of my plan to use current list & thanks to these Devs for making Mac compatible versions + free !

Just to be clear, it is possible in the desktop version but if you’re wanting complete feature parity between your desktop and iOS synths then no, there’s a difference there.

Whether it’s possible to import a user wavetable into the desktop version, then save a preset using that wavetable and import the preset successfully into the mobile version via iCloud (in other words, whether user wavetables are included in the preset file or not), I’m not sure - it wasn’t suggested as a workaround so probably not?
