I was just sucked into the dark and haunting atmosphere of this piece. My only complaint is it wasn't long enough, lol.
Firstly, which DAW did you use to produce this, if you indeed used a DAW? Or was it something like AUM/AudioBus? Secondly, how on Earth did you process and edit the vocals so precisely? Thirdly, what other synths did you use besides Noises and Hammerhead? Absolutely incredible. I need to know your creative process Yvonne, lol.
Thank you for your kind words @jwmmakerofmusic.
I never use a DAW. They’re all too complicated for my little pea-sized brain.😀
This was all made in AUM. Here’s the session:
The vocals are some samples that I put in Noises. I left a few of the slots blank and set it to random mode. A lot of reverb hides the seams. I forget where I got the drone in track 1 from but Replicant 3 and Rymdigare do nicely to chop it up somewhat. I beefed it up a little in Bark Filter and Bob’s your uncle!
Replicant 3! Okay, if I don't have it yet I'll be purchasing it. I also need to learn how to load my own samples in Noises, because that's just brilliant! 😎 And of course Rymdigare is just fun to play with.
This could be the opening theme for a psychological thriller film. I like that the rhythm is maintained by the pulsing synth, and the sparse drums just accentuate it. I didn’t understand a single word, and I love that! I think the human voice can be an instrument by itself even without actual words. Great track and supporting video.
Thanks @Paulieworld! I like to keep things as indistinct as possible.🙂
Oh this is awesome! Great job 👏 Noises and Hammerhead are 2 of my favorites as well. You really put them to good use here.
Did you master it before uploading or did you just focus on getting the mix just right? Because it sounds great!
Love it! Very dark & moody.
Great use of two of my fave apps! I like the trick of leaving some slots blank. I’ll be, er, stealing, I mean, ‘borrowing that with pride’. With you on the whole DAW thing, too, obvs. The ghostly vocals are perfect. Good to see Replicant 3 getting an outing too.
I also admire your fortitude in always producing a vid to go with the track. I should do that, but I lack the patience, and tend to over complicate the result. Your ‘pick a thing and go with it’ approach seems a lot more efficient. Not to mention beautiful.
A good minimalist apps choice nice
Hey @HotStrange @Halftone @Svetlovska @BerlinFx I thank you all most heartily!
@HotStrange If by “master” you mean “tweak a preset in Bark Filter” then, yes.
Otherwise, no.🙂
@Svetlovska for this video I found a really boring video of a train passing by on YouTube, messed around with it in LumaFX and slapped the music on it in iMovie.
It took maybe 20 minutes.
If you think you lack perseverance you should see me.
Just to give you an idea, my motto in life is:
If at first you don’t succeed, try again.
Then give up.😀
You’re my kinda guy 🤝 😂 bark filter is one of those “magic sauce” kind of apps no doubt.
The “Tripleband” preset roolz! 👌
Why can everyone make Noises sound good except me?
Nice. Would have happily listened to more 😢
Love this. Particularly the way the vocals are on the edge of distinct, but not quite - that’s quite a balancing act. And I’m another one who’ll probably be pinching that idea of leaving some slots empty in Noises!
