As I listen to this 11-minute long beast of a track, just wanted to ask which apps you used. What was your main creative environment/DAW? Which synths? Where'd you get the drums? :) How did you achieve that really nice sub?

EDIT: Really nice journey into Minimalism. :) Just the right length too.

    Thank you very much!
For the brass-kind-of sound I used Lagrange, the synth that fades in and sits under the hat is Sunrizer. The sub is made with Hilda! Kick and Hat with VaDrum2. Fx, RRS comp and eq’s, Hilda fx/Cascade/Altispace/Springs/Dails/RX950/Mantis/TruePan. Sequencers are Hilda and Octagron. All done in Apematrix on the fly, I recorded 2 takes, picked number 2, cut and faded in Wavebox, then a little mastering in Cubasis 3. That must be it :)

  • I’m not really into minimalism, but this worked for me. I closed my eyes and transported myself back to the old Mellow Yellow in Amsterdam. I only had coffee, of course!

You may want to try posting on SoundCloud. It’s free unless you want to post a million tracks. The interface is nice in that you just drag the URL into the text section and you get a nice graphic and a play button without having the listener have to leave the page. I started with BandCamp, but one day it stopped working. Just a thought. Have a great day!

  • Yes yes. I like it. Reminds me a bit of a Rival Consoles track. I feel It’s important for my well-being to allow my brain to be surrounded by minimal techno on occasion.
All the noise in my mind dissipates, and it’s the only time I don’t find myself ruminating.

Funny cause I almost purchased VAdrum2 the other day. I didn’t cause I already have FAC Drumkit, which has high sculpt ability with the different envelopes.

But VAdrum 2 I’m guessing is more comparable to Hammerhead with regards to a more quick and dirty approach, minus the more featured sequencer of HH. Which I have HH as well. Dunno if you have both. If so does the synth engine sound more or less the same as HH? Or would you say it’s more distinct? I remember VaMono being particularly dirty in a good way.

Minimal is so Zen, you go into this tunnel and you go and go!
VaDrum is the only drum synth I have (Gadget is something I used a lot for rhythm, but I try to avoid IAA nowadays). VaDrum is just 808/909 and nothing else, don’t except you can turn it into a vintage rhythm box or whatever, but that’s fine. The interface is a bit like clicking here and there, not the most intuitive. The sound is just great, like everything from this developer.

We have very similar workflows but I use AUM over ApeMatrix. Great track. I hear a little bit of Moroder influence with the drums and the synths sounding like they’re sitting right underneath them. I love minimalism and this is right up my street.

Are you using the Waves stuff in Cubasis for mastering?

Really truly amazing production, and fantastic use of these plugins and Apematrix! I had no idea Apematrix could do all that! I usually use AUM for my jams. I'll have to get Apematrix and dig in. Can Apematrix load MIDI AUv3s? :)

  • @HotStrange Thanks! :) In Cubasis I only use a tiny bit of the Limiter from the stock, I never bought any internal fx.
I also used ReAmp from Klevgrand and RRS EQ55b.

@jwmmakerofmusic Most of the modulation is done live so it’s a lot of hopping forth and back between the Matrixes and the synths/fx. And the ease of use of lfo’s in Apematrix on everything is worth gold for me. You can load everything in Ape. But I’ll bet AUM is just as capable if not more, I just ended up using Apematrix :)

Cool! I only have a couple of the RRS apps (the Ivoks synth and filter, plus the free one they released). I have them all downloaded for the trail versions and plan on buying more soon. Any you’d recommend over the others? The Soviet Compressor seems to sound really great.

Yes, the Soviet comp is actually the original Molot on the desktops. I have their other comp, but I think I will buy this as well, as it has a lot of color and character. I read somewhere on another forum they are working on a new comp, no info besides that.

Oh nice! They have tons of apps on iOS so it’s almost overwhelming deciding which ones to go with. I’ve demo’d most of them and it doesn’t seem like you can go wrong with any honestly.

Slowly moving my stuff over at Bandcamp/Soundcloud.

This one is super minimal, created a few months ago, I think I used Sunrizer for both the stab & the derange loop.
