Heretic stuff (touchscreen win11)

Today I put my hands on a samsung laptop on win11 with touchscreen. It felt damn solid. I thought of running ableton on it using touchscreen... FFS please tell me its a bad idea (because it costs 2000 euro + all my ipad apps would go to thrash). Anyone tried that? Thanks

Bad idea , Ableton is not optimised for touch , plus 99,99% of vsts

It works pretty well actually. I run Ableton on a surface pro. Surface pen is a must! It’s nice for simple things but just doesn’t have the optimization and horsepower to run larger sessions. I enjoy using it, but the somewhat low performance and high latency mean it isn’t going to be a main rig for much. I kind of like running Renoise on the surface pro more than ableton though.

Get a secondhand Microsoft Surface Pro 8 (last years model, with the headphone Jack, the new one’s gone all Apple on price and lack of Jack) and Bitwig - fully optimised for touch.

Molten Music has a whole bunch of vids re just this, eg:

I never actually tried it on touch, but I’ve seen videos and bitwig seems pretty well adapted for touch. It opens up an overblown overlay when you touch faders and lnobs, which is very convenient for touch and I wonder why iOS developers don’t implement that more often. I seem to remember only Thor does that

  • Thanks, thats some food for thought. For now more pros than cons :'( :D
