Having a File player and drum unit in the same session? [AUM]

Seems if you have both, the play button starts both. Is there any way to have a separate play control for either the drums or the track?

Comments

  • You can control the start of the file player via the ‘Play Enable’ manually or automated with a note on/off message.

What app are you talking about? If you are talking about AUM, file players they play when AUM transport runs if they are play enabled. You can turn play enable off if you don't want them to play when the transport runs. WIthout knowing what drum app or plug-in you are talking about, it depends on the app/plug-in. It may or may not have a setting to prevent it from running when the host transport starts.

  • If you are talking about AUM, the Play Enable setting is available both in the user interface and via MIDI control.

  • Start/Stop of the drum track can also be controlled manually or automated via the ‘Bypass’ parameter.

Thx - this is closer to the mark...folks were a bit confused I think?? ...I can already get both to play, it's the playing at the same time that is the issue...although it is a Lumbeat drum app so I'm not holding my breath that anything is possible.

It's a small WAV drum intro I need to run prior to starting the drum app.

And as this is the AUM forum I sorta guessed folks would figure I was talking about AUM...

This is the AUM forum? This is the Audiobus Forum not the AUM forum.

What sync method are you using?

Probably the thing to do is to create an empty pattern in your Lumbeat app so that it is playing a silent pattern until you send it another pattern to play.

It isn’t, but either way it’s always better to give as much information as possible when you ask a question.

  • So, just to be clear, we're talking about AUM as the host and one of the Lumbeats apps is the "drummer". Correct?

The AUM file player can't work without AUM's transport running. So what you need is for AUM's transport to start, but for it not to start the Lumbeats app. Then after the intro should it automatically start the Lumbeats app transport ... in sync? Or would you start the AUM transport manually? If so, what about sync? Is manual timing good enough for hitting play, or does it need to be quantized to a beat or measure?

Would it be enough just to have the Lumbeats app running but muted until you need it? Then disable playing the intro loop? Does the intro loop need to play only once, or loop?

(This is the Audiobus, not AUM forum.)

  • This would be easy with Loopy Pro either as the host or as an AU for the file player.

Yeah, fair...I use it so much for AUM I do forget sometimes!

    Yep to the first question.

Be starting the Lumbeat manually with a footswitch. Already go very busy hands...wouldn't have time to unmute a muted Lumbeat, as well as making sure it is on "beat"

OK, but if Lumbeat was running in the background, having started at the same time as the file player, it would automatically be on beat. The drummer would start when the file player started but would be muted. One tap of a foot switch could mute or stop the file player and unmute the drummer (or cross-fade if needed). Of course, this also assumes the intro audio file is at the same tempo as the Lumbeat groove.

So the question remains whether the Lumbeat app specifically needs to start "from the beginning", or if it could be running (in sync) but muted until you want it to come in.

In AUM you can set the offbeat counter of the file player to start after xx beat (the drum intro) and in the Lumbeat app create a song (or using the live pads) with the drum intro and then your main rhythm. It’s quite easy to try, hope it helps.

ahhh, I get ya. Yes that might work!

    Thanks. I will.

You can also set the beat offset in AUM after loading the file player and pressing on node.
