Update: Solved. ApeMatrix question... how exactly do you route midi to the matrices to activate AUs?

I'm going to maybe need a fairly detailed explanation, if anyone can provide one or point to one. It might be a trivial task, but I haven't figured it out...

A few more AM questions to follow, I intend to master this puppy one day. This ape puppy.

Thank you. Can you confirm the answer to that question is in one of those videos? To the extent that they are introductory, I’m not sure that this is a question that will be addressed…

  • MIDI routing is done once you click on this icon :

This opens a new routing matrix dedicated to MIDI IN/OUT only (ie. not audio signal).

The Daveypoo videos are great. He explains the routing really clearly

Those two videos are like Academy for question asked, I can confirm. @tja did a great job of helping you out. Most wonderful thing about this forum are those helpful people and creators of those two tutorials are also members, one of them even a moderator.

Thanks to everyone who tried to help, but I was asking a very specific question, and perhaps didn't make it clear enough. hqppily, I figured it out. Pretty simple after a few hours of sleep -- I was in that zombie iPAD user stage that usually happens at 3 a.m. or so.

I agree, Mr. Poo's videos are great and I watched some or all back in the day. I think I also watched videos from stalwarts Cool Beans Doug and Gavinski, if memory serves.

Haq did one video about ApeMatrix, where he basically tried work through it on camera with the help of a live audience, and said he would return at some point to make another video if he liked it. It was clear he went into it with a lot of skepticism. I guess it didn't click with him, because I didn't see a second vid.

Since I started using it, AUM is something I use more often than not to test a plugin that doesn't work in AM in order to see if the problem is the DAW or the plugin. I'm really surprised it hasn't picked up more users, at least in these parts. Y'all oughta check it out.

    Carry on!

I LOVE using ape matrix for 3 specific things:

Modulation - somewhat mitigated by the available new apps such as mLFO

Drum buss - put all your drums in ape matrix with whatever Fx etc you want and route that into AUM/DAW. Cuts down on the number of channels in AUM (a sub mix if you will)

Using it like a HARDWARE matrix mixer
Super for making sounds and sometimes easier than keeping track of audio routing in AUM

It's great for those things, and although I've not used a hardware matrix, the matrix itself is super useful and gives a great overview of audio and midid connects.

What are the advantages in using AUM from your perspective? I know it has greater flexibility for recording separate output streams, so there is that.

How to use MIDI control for the volume of the matrix nodes??? I can do it with the finger up/down in each node but I want to use 3xternel physical knobs…

    Hi, @Synthi.
You might want to double tap inside the yellow frame in this screenshot.
(Sorry if I’ve misunderstood your question. I’m MIDI novice.)

    (Edit)
Sorry! I may have interrupted(?) a question directed(?) to @audiblevideo. Please ignore this post of mine.

    (Edit 2)
Moreover, I missed the reference to AUM in the question. I mistakenly thought the question was about apeMatrix being used alone. I’m so sorry.

    (Edit 3)
Sorry, AUM may not have been mentioned in @Synthi ‘s question. But I’m not sure.
I’m not qualified to post on this thread.

    @Synthi
This post is an edited version of my previous post on this thread.

    *
In this example, the hardware and app used are below three only.
    -iPad
-Hardware MIDI controller with physical knobs
    -apeMatrix

    *
There are two ways to set the physical knob on the volume of each apeMatrix node(?).
One is the ‘screenshot 1’ that I already posted above.
The other is "Control" (red square) in the ‘screenshot 2’ below.
    Either one can be used.
(Note:The yellow squares are objects to which attention should be directed.)

First, please tap "MIDI IN" (blue square) to check if the connected hardware MIDI controller has a check mark (✔︎) indicating its enabled status.

Then, after the "Control" (red square) is tapped, when the physical knob is turned while ‘screenshot 3’ below is displayed, the volume of apeMatrix’s node(?) will be assigned to the physical knob.

Thanks a lot @cramdog but that’s for controlling the output volume of each device in the column, changing that output volume will affect the whole row. I need to control the individual volume of the node ( the 🔴 red circle), ie. the independent volume amount from column 2 to row 3, row 4,… I can do it with my finger up/Down in the node red circle but can’t find how to midi control the amount…

I want to use ape matrix, well, as it’s name implies , as a matrix mixer but using midi knobs.

Trying in miRack and work perfect but I also want all the adicional apematrix features

  • @Synthi
-Thanks for the explanation. I finally understand why you stated "the finger up/down" instead of "the finger left/right". As you know, I am not very familiar with apeMatrix. But your explanation has helped me understand for the first time how people want to use apeMatrix. Thank you so much.

-I have no idea how to achieve(?) what you want to do. I’m sorry.

-I recently (= this month) reported a few problems about an app to apeMatrix developer (apeSoft) and got a reply fairly quickly. So you might get some answers if you ask questions or make requests through input form on the apeSoft website.

  • Thanks to you @cramdog !
I was asking here because I always go Audiob.us first!
I`ll ask alessandro (apesoft), I know him since I helped developing iVCS3.
will post here if there is a way to do that
