I/O (electronic/downtempo/ambient album)

Hi there! My second album "I/O" just dropped on most of the streaming platforms.
It's an electronic/downtempo/ambient album, sounds coming from my hardware synths (Microfreak, MC-101, Wavestate) and some iPad apps (Model 15, FRMS, Samplewiz 2 and others, plus lots of effects like Other Desert Cities, Rymdigare, Cascade, etc), mostly recorded in Loopy Pro and mastered in Studio One.

Most of the tracks are very relaxed and suitable for background listening, some are a bit more spicy but I'm really not a techno guy :-D
Hope you like it!

  • Nice work… I followed the link and ended up on a YouTube embed page. So, I didn’t see any other tracks.

  • Did you know that Peter Gabriel's current album is also called I/O. By the way, he worked on it for more than 10 years.

Thanks! I updated the links and added Spotify, Youtube and the links page.

@Iskander wow didn't know that. I guess I have a good taste for album names :#

‘Suddenly Remembering’ and ‘Transitory’ I enjoyed most, came back for them a few times. Really great songs, masterpieces. 🤩

Kind of expected to listen to what you did with SWAM Cello, but I guess it will be next time. ;)

Bought SWAM Cello right after the release of that album so you have to wait unfortunately. But my wife specifically requested some piano+cello tracks so I guess I'll need to deliver at some point :D

  • Just listening it... very nice ! Very musical, very emotional, very interesting ! :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

  • The final of Certainty is so huge, it's great. Suddenly remembering is a gorgeous track. The robotic feel of Daily Routine fits perfectly the track title! Loving the intertwined arpeggi in Interlude, and the composition sometimes reminds me of the song Analyse on Thom Yorke first solo album. Really love the vibe and chord progression on Transitory, solid track. I like the arppegiated synth on family reunion and the weird modulations towards the end which reminded of some of my weird family gatherings 😅. Uncertainty closes the album as perfectly as Certainty opens it.
A very impressive work masterfully crafted and put together. Pristine production and mixing. Clicking on this post is definitely the best thing I did in the last few days. A very beautiful album and the artwork is perfect.
My only comment: though all tracks stands perfectly on their own, I personally wish few tracks had vocals on top.

  • Good stuff, some great sounds and textures, and I love the way that it doesn't easily slot into any kind of specific genre.

Thank you very much! Your comment really means a lot to me, I put a lot of effort into production AND mixing and it's great to see someone appreciated it. I still think I suck at mixing but I suppose it's going to improve with time, right?

I just feel bad about the cover because it's AI produced. I'm not sure using AI to create artwork is like stealing from real artists, but it feels a bit like that. The final result was amazing though..

This would be great but I suck at singing lol. Time for a collaboration maybe?

Also thanks @dendy and @richardyot! I love mixing genres.

  • There's no reason to feel bad about using AI to create artwork. Of course it would be better to have someone doing the job but if I am not mistaken you're not a top selling artist and you don't have a label supporting you. you're simply using the tools at your disposal. Actually writing the right prompt to guide AI is not so obvious. So if you get a great artwork, it means you worked (a bit) for it 😁
As for mixing, listening to your album, I can say with certainty that I suck a lot more than you do, if it can make you feel better.. 😉.
I'll give a few more listen and see if a song inspires me lyrics and vocals but cannot promise anything !

  • Awesome album, @unlink
    Following you up.
Gonna give a listen after work too with the head more focused.
But speaking of focus, your album paired great with my working vibe. Just the right amount of ambiency and action

Out of curiosity, which tracks you used the MC-101?
Gotta take the dust of mine to play a bit here...

MC-101 plays: some background synths in Suddenly Remembering and Night Ride, the slow rising organ/ambient background sound in Interlude (you can probably hear it a bit better around 1:30), the synthwavey pads around the middle of Daily Routine, all Transitory (except some effects - probably just added some drum samples), the arpeggio which starts around 0:10 in Family Reunion, the massive lead around 1:10 in Uncertainty.
I hate programming the MC-101 but the sound quality is so good.

  • Just finished listening to the whole album and you should be very proud of what you’ve created… excellent throughout. Suddenly Remembering and Family Reunion are probably my favourites but it’s a close thing as there are no bad ones.
Finished up listening via YT as Qobuz my streaming service isn’t one of the options but other than a few adverts it works fine 😊
I use AI all the time now for track art, previously I used my own photos so I don’t feel that guilty but I think @JanKun expressed it very well.
    Subscribed and liked 👍

  • Thanks for the feedback, mate!
Regarding programming the 101, sometimes I dig and sometimes not.
Still better than my old MC-303

But I like using all the midi apps (generative or not) into/with Xequence, LK or Modstep and targeting hardware grooveboxes

  • oof! Listening now to Discovery pt1. Massive sounding already :open_mouth:

  • Thanks a lot @GeoTony!

@senhorlampada yeah the first album has A LOT of MC-101 and Microfreak since they were the two hardware synths I had along with some PC vsts (no iPad when this was recorded). Mixing was poor though :p

  • I listened because I really love I/O
Wasn't expecting MC-101 and Microfreak there. So that's a huge bonus
    And yep... loved Discovery too
    You rock, mate!

Only thing with that cover is those crooked legs, it’s not good. But I wanted to listen to your creations, not to judge AI generated image. ;) So who cares. Nothing against anyone who uses generic tools because every freaking fx algorithm we are using in our music is kind of machine generated sound. Every classical instrument is an apparatus of sorts too.

Edit: Just ignore my comment on AI image, it’s pointless doing this on generic creations. Sry, I need to adapt for the future. ;)
