Apps for sidechain and/or gates?

Hello! I've just started using Cubasis as my DAW but it seems like you can't do any sidechain compression in it. Does anyone know if there's any compressor that can do this or basically an app that can simulate sidechain? Of course I want it to work with Audiobus, but I would be really happy if it worked as an Inter app plugin too. If there's any workaround to make it work inside of Cubasis, please tell me. :)

Also if anyone knows an app that works like a gate, it would be nice too.

  • WoW from Sugarbytes is nice. One can modulate the incoming signal using a saw tooth LFO with a smooth down slope for instance. This will get you something like ducking, but it's beat synced, so if you need a compressor that really reacts to the signal on the sidechain then it won't work.

WOW can also do a gate in the same way.

  • Beatmaker 2 has a side chain option for some effects.

  • Thanks! I will take a look att WoW.

I own Beatmaker 2, but I wasn't really happy with it so I decided to use Cubasis instead. I can probably sidechain in Beatmaker and import it into Cubasis, but if there's an easier solution i'll use that instead. :)

  • the IAP expansion for MultitrackStudio (iPad only) has a sidechaining feature that can do ducking. I'd contact them if you need more info though cause what's in the manual about that feature is pretty limited.

  • Thanks Coloobar! I'll take a look at it :)

  • I think Auria has side chain

    Can you please elucidate me?

    Which is the proper plug-in?

    Thanks

  • This any help?

Or compressor side/mid? I suggest spending some time watching all the FabFilter tutorials to see what the various choices achieve.

  • That was quick! I have been watching a few of them but I didn't know it belongs to the equalizer. (That's what it is, right? :)

    Do you recommend the purchase?

    Thanks

  • +1 for beatmaker2 sidechain compression and gate on inputs

  • I've always wanted to buy bm2 but when I was about to the price went back up and now I'll wait for BM3!

    Thanks

Pro-C is the one I use most. After that Pro-L. Every single one of them is worth the money.

Edit: I meant to say Pro-Q is the one I use most. But I think that the OP was after compression so that would be Pro-C

  • Pro c does side chaining. It also does mid side. It also has internal sidechain, which can make an effective de-esser.

  • Thanks for all of the suggestions! Auria might work but it's too expensive for me right now. I haven't tried WOW yet, because i'm waiting for a sale. :P

It's interesting that no one seems to have made a simple LFO-app which controls the volume yet.

  • So... Forgive me for my ignorance... But do these do ducking?

If we are talking FabFilter plugs (side chaining in general works in Auria), Pro-G, FabFilters gate plug, will handle any ducking and upwards expansion needs via side chain really well, lots of room to adjust how fast, how much and so on it'll duck/expand the audio.

Just bought WOW on the halloween sale! I'm experimenting a bit with it, but still haven't found out how to sidechain in it. Could someone please tell me how to get started? Thanks!

Just found out how to do it!

First i chose the preset "Init with LFO" in the "Init" folder. Then i dragged the arrow under the LFO visuals to the left until it said "1/4" on the right. I also moved the arrow on the left side until i got the desired waveform and then i pulled down the volume knob on the bottom. Still haven't figured out how to sync it properly so for now i just turned off "Audio Trig". If someone knows how to sync it, please tell me! :)

  • I bet @holdernessmedia has a stand alone side chain compressor cooking in a git branch somewhere considering the feature was recently added to Crystalline (and coming soon to echo pad). At least I hope he does.

I think this is what you're looking for. Sidechain compression with Cubasis, I just made a tutorial video for you too.

  • If you have Auria, just buy the FabFilters - not only compression, but the gate also work as side chain!

I think you're going to have come over and give me a lesson. I'll make the tea etc.

  • Aufx:Push does sidechaining too. And hopefully soon it will release in AU format either as an upgrade or a separate app...

  • Aufx push is the side chain king on ios
