  • Ok…it seems like you did it…you wizard!
I was chasing my tail. Your previous build had follow actions that set master length and re phased the clock.
This new one does not but I cannot reproduce it. I’m setting up all the usual edits like you …record and play quantization.
I can’t figure out the hidden magic. You have yellow follow actions that I’m not sure are pertinent but I’m missing something.
Wow. I love the complexity but it’s beating me up. I wanna play. Thanks so much my friend. You’ve been my only resourse.
Forget about ai. It’s apologized to me so many times for its hallucinations.

I am not sure I understand your message. Is the version of the project I uploaded in this thread working for you?

LLMs are unlikely to help here.

The yellow follow actions and the dial they trigger change the clip settings based on whether a clip is being recorded.

When a clip is being recorded, the play and recording quantization settings are different than when no clip is recording.

There is also a global play follow action that resets the clock phase when a clip plays and sets the master to the clip’s length…which is necessary for queuing recording.

  • Yes, this version is working. Great stuff. I’m not sure how you’re figuring this out.
I’ll study your example and try to duplicate its actions. I didn’t understand the meaning in the dial but will experiment.
The yellow follow action “select interrupt settings”. How the hell did you know to select that or what it would do?
Youre the man! I’ll let you know…
    Cheers

  • Where is the global play follow action located?

In control settings, see Project-Wide Follow Actions

I’ve become familiar with the settings and the actions and gotten into the habit of breaking down what I want to do and look at the next thing I want to do do that I can’t figure out.

For example, if a clip is recording and I trigger a clip to play, how do I stop recording and play the other clip immediately.

From knowing settings, I know that means I need recording count-out to be none and play quantization to be none.

How do I do that? I need to change the settings when initial recording starts. So, a follow action is needed.

I go through that process over and over till I have refined the project to do what I want.

It sounds like a more drawn out process than it is.

I’ll study your example and try to duplicate its actions. I didn’t understand the meaning in the dial but will experiment.

Take the time to understand what those actions do snd why they are needed.

You’ll want to understand the play/stop quantization settings. The record count-in/count-out settings. Stepped dials.

See both the manual and wiki for details.

The yellow follow action “select interrupt settings”. How the hell did you know to select that or what it would do?

I know because I have a lot of experience with Loopy Pro. I am hoping that the manual, wiki and examples provide the details gif figuring these things out.

I am happy to answer any questions to help you understand.

Youre the man! I’ll let you know…
    Cheers

  • It’s going to take me while to understand how that dial is achieving the freedom the loops have from each other.

I’ve created 4 buttons to control these 4 loops to ultimately have foot control….however they don’t have the same results as pressing the loops themselves. The 4th loop always is a slave to a previous length. I’m telling the buttons to play/stop on press.
Why would they behave differently than touching the loops.

What is it that you don’t understand? Did you look at the actions the dial triggers? When a clip starts recording it triggers one step. When it ends recording, it triggers the other step.

Each step assigns different clip settings.

Take a look at those settings.

Please zip and upload your project.

Did you examine the existing midi bindings that I set up?

  • @Peet : here is an improved version of the project. I’ve added a few bells and whistles and also reorganized the follow actions to be global to make it easier to add clips.

  • Ok…I’ve got the project wide follow actions. Great
As an experiment I eliminated everything from your template but the follow actions. Just to see what was relevant to my needs. The step dial…gone but it works still perfectly except…
I can’t replicate it. I’ve set all the play and record settings like yours but I’m missing the main ingredient that separates the loops from a master length.
Why if I’ve erased all the midi bindings and the step dial does yours work and my replica fails.

I took a break for some live gigging the past while. Back at this puzzle

The stepped dial and follow actions are both necessary.

I suggest that you study the project I posted and ask questions about what you don’t understand. There is an info box for the stepped dial that explains what it does.

Short version: the follow actions and dial change play quantization and recording settings that are needed for free lengths. When recording is done it switches the settings.

Look at the settings in those dials to understand why they are needed.

If you aren’t sure, let me know.

Understanding the play/stop quantization and record count-in/out is important.
