  • The drums are blowing me away. Any idea how to semi- create these on the iPad? So much dynamics…

I think the key to the drum sound is that freaking amazing drummer…

The guy surely knows his ghost notes. The moment he starts over samplr I was like woah! This dude drums

  • Fantastic! Really creative and they’ve got a great sound! Very enjoyable, indeed. Thanks for sharing this!

The dynamics come from the playing, so you would need to use pads that are sensitive to velocity. In addition, the playing relies a lot on the ‘bounce’ of the drum head/stick, so at least knowing the rudiments of playing that way would be a necessity.

  • I have seen him and his band in 2015, Soundtracks tour. I think it was impressive, I can't remember it that well, I have to watch some old video to get that feeling back.

I do know at some point the battery in his guitar was empty, and he tried to fix it while singing, but that didn't work, so in the last part of the show he didn't play guitar anymore.

He was around as an Ellen Allien associate (I think he played on Berlinette?), but I didn't really dig into his stuff until their 2006 joint LP Orchestra of Bubbles. I'm a fairweather IDM/EDM fan, though; real heads likely knew him already from the so-called "German micro house" scene, as he'd released a couple records in the early Aughts.

    Cool thanks.

Had to research to remember Ellen Allien but cant remember the songs.

  • When I was writing about the drums I know in the back of my mind the answer was going to be the drummer and the way he plays. I was hoping there was a magical app out there that would do this. Haha. Tycho also has an amazing drummer that probably would be hard to program with a sampler/iOS

Wait a minute! Is Apparat the creator of Samplr?! Small world. Orchestra of Bubbles is one of few albums I still listen to from my youth. I have to listen more to his work.

No, the dev of Samplr is Marcos Alonso and and has been on the Apple payroll for several years now. Jakob made a nice docutorial about him and his iconic app:

Not from the start, but I started to listen to them around 2011 with "The Devil's Walk". Some mesmerising songs there that I still enjoy listening frequently.
