Bad time to buy a new iPad?
My 2018 iPad Pro (12.9-inch) is on its way out. The edge of the screen is yellowing (a €700+ repair I found out today), and the battery isn’t happy.
I was planning to wait until the next iPad Pros come out, but that’s probably going to be next year. My other option would be an Apple-refurbished M1 Pro. I’m also thinking of going for the 11-inch version for the first time in years.
I find iPad Pro prices ridiculous these days, compared to when I got this one, five years ago. I was hoping the next version might offer more ports, or some other improvement. Then again, maybe it just has a miniLED screen and an even higher price.
I am also considering the 1TB model for the extra RAM.

If you need it now, I would personally go with the refurbished M1 Pro with more memory. I don't think there was a huge difference between the 2021 m1 and the 2022 m2. Of course looking at the pricing there doesn't seem to be much of a price difference maybe $200 or so on the used market. From the rumors the next iteration seems like it will be a bigger jump. I just wish they would add usb-c ports! I'm on the 2021 and it can handle anything I throw at it.
Yeah, I think the only difference apart from the M2 chip is the hover thing for the Apple Pencil.
My 2018 is still totally capable, which is why I wanted to hold out for the next model. But the battery thing is causing trouble. Then again, I do have it on the iPadOS 17 beta (for work), and we’re having 30-degree days, which may be why it’s getting hot and not charging.
