  • Really love the ambiguity of this piece. Don't really know on which foot to stand, or if I should even be standing at all. Interesting interpretation of the Kintsugi !

  • Your range never ceases to amaze me.

  • Good title and apt. The lack of resolution works. What’s a kintsugi?

  • Nice resolutions here and there.

Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with lacquer usually mixed with powdered gold, silver or platinum. The philosophy behind it is pretty deep, you should check these two concepts : Wabi Sabi and Mushin.

There is a little story behind this. It’s a remake of an improvisation that I recorded in college on a cheap cassette. I was surprised that the tape was even playable, so I recorded it into AudioShare. I gave up on it a year ago and just found it a few days ago. I tried to “repair” it, but I think it was just broken from the start. I had gotten home from a night of festivities and went down to the student lounge and just started random noodling on a dilapidated old baby grand in the student lounge. The original was a lot longer, but I tried to pick out a few coherent bits. When thinking of a title, I thought of Kintsugi. I don’t think I added any beauty, but at least Ravenscroft is in tune. Thanks for listening!

Thanks boomer. I think our paths may have crossed at some time. I was at NIU in the mid 70s around the time you were playing in Fly By Night. I was living in Grant Towers and recorded this after a night at McCabes. There is really not much range to this, just some rambling nonsense. I’ve been posting some weird music and I figured, what’s one more? Do you, by chance, remember a band called Tazz Rikki? We played at Andy’s, Red Lion, and a few others. We had some great times.

I think the lack of resolution was not intentional. More likely somebody told me to stop making noise. @JanKun provided the best description. Especially Mushin… it’s broke dude, deal with it!

“here and there” being the the operative words. Thanks for listening!

  • Nicely different, sparse but never boring 👍
Your very productive at the moment… I can’t keep up 😊
