Looking forward to listening as soon as I get home tonight!
A pastiche, maybe. I like the Wendy Carlos feeling, for sure. Good job!
Nice orchestration- surprising twists & turns
I am not into these kinds of synthetic sounds, but this put aside, composition and orchestration are very impressive.
Excellent! I found it very uplifting and positive. Lots of variety and catchy melodies. I agree with all of the above that the orchestration and arrangement was extremely well done. I wouldn’t expect any less from someone with your background.
I haven’t forgotten about the the “rumor” game collaboration. I’m just a bit intimidated at the thought of working with a former member of the NIU Jazz Ensemble! Do you have any preference for something to use as a starting point? I’ll do my best.
Thank you all for listening!
@LinearLineman your comparison to Wendy Carlos is quite a compliment for me. That’s exactly what I was going for. She set the bar for me with switched on Bach back in the early 70s. She of course did it a lot better than me with Stone Age technology. And “pastiche”. Yes. Thank you for a new vocabulary word.
@Stochastically. Surprising is good. Predictability is boring.
@JanKun thanks for the compliment on the writing. I am honored. To your point about synthetic sounds… When synthesizers first came into use, everyone kept saying that they were not meant to replace “real” musicians. The original intent was to provide a new sound pallet and tools beyond what a human could do with acoustic instruments. That of course is not what eventually happened. Musicians were indeed rendered more and more irrelevant. I think we have finally come full circle to the point where we can strive for the original intent by making good music with synthetic sounds that do not attempt to replace acoustic instruments or musicians. This forum is filled with music by people who do exactly that only better than me.
@Paulieworld your comments as always mean a lot to me. I will PM you about this project. Needs clearer process definition and rules. Your question is pretty basic and already I can’t answer
Superb. Loved the bass and the placement of the instruments in the stereo field.
I remember buying the LP of Switched on Bach and just sitting there in amazement at the sounds.
I can definitely hear the influence 🙏
Love this. Very well arranged and plenty of variety. It could even make a rather good modern Progressive Rock style tune (maybe with slightly different instrumentation) but I enjoyed the nod to Wendy Carlos/Bach!
