New Track | DanSeb - These Times | House | Logic Pro

Hi all,

This was the first track I started in Logic Pro (on release), as a way to teach myself how to use the software. Hugely impressive DAW - the only thing missing for me is 'ghost' patterns. 'Looping' almost achieves the same thing, until there's a break in the loop, then you're back to a fresh instance... The audio routing capabilities and the ease of automation particularly stood out for me, and the whole thing feels extremely CPU efficient - 37 tracks plus plugins were no problem for my M1 processor - I've been used to audio drop outs & increasing buffer sizes to maximum towards the end of most tracks using Cubasis 3 in the past.

I came across a 'Deadmau5-style chord plucks' tutorial on YouTube and loosely followed it to get this track started. I then used vocal samples taken from the 'Illesha - Intentions' vocal sample pack, chopped up and arranged with Koala. Synth duties are handled by FabFilter's Twin 3 and Synthmaster 2, and I dropped in an instance of PureAcid for some 303 sounds. Percussion is all via one-shot samples within multiple instances of DrumKit Designer (one for cymbals, one for snares etc.) all routed to a drum bus for group processing. I used similar busses for bass and synths, and everything is mastered with Fabfilter plugins and the MagicDeathEye compressor.

Hope you enjoy, and any comments welcome!

  • Nice one thanks

  • You've taken too Logic well then :)

Very professional sounding, well mixed with some nice sound/preset choices.

Criticisms? Only that, to my ears, it's a little generic. I wish there was a sound or chord or something that stuck out. Just not my style of music I guess. I've got a mate who would have his top off, hands in the air dancing to this at some club or festival though :D

Thanks very much for the detailed feedback FPC, I appreciate the comments. Glad to hear the mix sounds ok and I get what you mean about a 'standout' part, I'll bear that in mind for next time. Cheers!

  • Yow Dan! Amazing that you completed a full track within Logic Pro, being used to Cubasis. I will try Logic asap too and see how it goes. As always your mix sounds great and very well done.
Did you use MDE comp/limiters on busses or groups or just on the master? No more PDC issues then as they were present in Cubasis?
    Good work amigo!

Thanks Alberto, great to hear from you! Yeah I'm 100% a Logic Pro convert now - Cubasis has been deleted! MDE was actually only used on the master bus, but I did route all percussion to a drum bus, and used 'Knock' on that bus, which would have likely caused issues in Cubasis due to the lack of PDC - everything now works as it should in Logic!
