New synth app coming soon!—beta testers needed

Hi Folks!

We are working on a new synth for iOS and desktop, it's a fun 'kick-oriented' mono-synth, with flexible multi segment envelopes and a fun glitchy wavetable engine that's great for heavy kicks as well as huge bass sounds and effects!

Drop us a message using the Toybox website contact from, here:

https://www.toyboxaudio.com/pages/contact-us

And we'll send over a test flight link (and the desktop plugins for Mac and Windows if you would like to try these too!)

Thanks! We are super excited for you to try it out!!

David

I’m not sure if they do sample packs at all, but they’ve definitely had one, maybe two free packs of their reaktor blocks…

    @Freeco

Finally got time to did some tests with your app. I am really impressed, very powerful yet easy to tweak drum synth ! Really like second layer, it greatly expands posibilities ! Would love to have it also on iPhone, i think UI is so well designed that it can work pretty well even on iphone as is now ..

One comment.. would preffer to have bigger frequency range for "punch" curve - i can't achieve classic psytance kick with it cause when i increase starting point (psy kicks starts with very high transient), then even with envelope on total bottom it doesn't goo deep down bellow 60hz where i need to have it for bottom range of kick.

Here example what i mean, watch when i tweak bottom "punch" knob to start kick higher - the bottom of kick is not low enough

Oh also not sure with labeling of left 2 top knobs "attack" and "decay" - from what i understand, "attack" knob actually regulates global pitch sweep and "decay" regulates AMP sweep ... so maybe "pitch amp" and "gain amp" label (or something like that) would make more sense ?

Or i am getting (just by my ears) incorrectly what they are doing ?

Also can't identify any affect on sound by most right top knob (arrow with note) - what it is supposed to do ?

Hi @dendy, I've increase the range and scaling of the 'Punch' knob so it reaches a lot higher, should easily be able to do what you after now :) Will include this change with the next update on TestFlight.

(You may need to adjust the Punch knob in existing presets to get them to sound the same.)

'Attack' and 'Decay' both affect the speed that the envelope travels from left to right, 'Attack' controls the speed of the 1st 20% of its travel and 'Decay' controls the speed of the remaining 80%. Hopefully that makes sense.

Also can't identify any affect on sound by most right top knob (arrow with note) - what it is supposed to do ?

This is the 'Glide' knob, play different notes on the keyboard and the pitch will slide between the notes.

    Very cool !

Btw. let know when you will have more or less final version of all parameters - in case you will be interested i can create for you some set of factory presets ;) - really like this synth, great jib with it !

Attack' controls the speed of the 1st 20% of its travel and 'Decay' controls the speed of the remaining 80%. Hopefully that makes sense.

Ak understand, it makes sense but maybe then some other naming wouls be bette .. like Decay 1 / Decay 2 .. because Attack is really something different in synth world .. or “punch decay” and “tail decay ” .. or just “punch” / “tail”.. or something like that..

  • Hi Folks, there's a new beta version of Thump One available on TestFlight:

    • Added 'Smooth' knob to options page to help remove clicks in some situations
    • GUI fixes
    • Improved general control smoothing
    • Added Undo / Redo buttons
    • Moved Copy, Paste & Clear out of 'Envelope' sub-menu
    • Init preset now defaults to 'Legato Mode' switched off', sequences of adjoining MIDI notes now re-trigger correctly in all DAWs
    • In fresh installations of the app the factory presets now have 'Legato' switched off' where it is appropriate

Will send to to Apple for app review if everything is ok with this one.

No issues with it yet on my end! Haven’t tested much so far though.

  • Cool @Freeco im really enjoying testing this one.

Quick question… the current price is the regular price correct? Not an intro discount or anything…

I saw it in Jakob Haqs presentation, looked very useful. Looking forward to get it.

Great, if everything seems fine I’ll submit to apple.
