Anyone using the AU3FX apps bundle?

After doing a search on the forum for AU3FX, I read lots of posts to support the developer, but no one talking about how they actually use these apps. Is this a gift purchase or a practical buy?

Comments

  • They're great FX! I use them all the time. Most of the chatter seems to focus on big-name offerings and the latest new stuff, or stuff that has issues. These just work. I'd call them one of the most practical buys on the platform.

  • I don’t have the reverb or delay but Push and Peak are absolutely fantastic and well worth the money. Peak is my go-to EQ on most things.

Like @wim said, they just work. Definitely gonna buy the other 2 soon though.

I agree. There’s a reverb (AU3FX) with extra features no other reverb has. A compressor )AU3PUSH) with extras. And a DUB FX with warble and more. And all these extra FX capabilities are exposed as AUv3 Parameters.

  • Thank you, @wim @HotStrange and @McD ! I’m sold.
You guys steered me to AUM when I had questions about AUM vs Audiobus and and I’m using AUM every day now. I really appreciate your feedback.

    Sure thing! Enjoy!

  • Honestly after using the in house EQs, Compressors, Delays, and Reverbs on all the IOS DAWs, as well as great AUv3 ones from various, I feel like I can get my bread&butter sound easiest with the AU3FX Apps than any others. Well, that’s after I use Brusfri on all my Audio live inputs first.

  • The delay offers an extremely useful feature which I suggested to the dev, and which he was kind enough to add: delay time changes on release of your finger. This means, for example, that you can jump from an 8th triplet delay directly to a 16th triplet delay without first having to pass through intermediate and unmusical delay values.

That more devs don't implement things like this (I've often asked) is yet another sign of how the vast majority are unfortunately still stuck in a hardware / desktop paradigm when it comes to designing apps for touch screens. The iPad is never going to replace the laptop until the majority of apps are doing cool things with touch and thinking outside the box. (Admittedly, this particular feature could also be implemented for mouse, but you get my point)

I agree. I don’t have Dub or Space yet, but Push and Peak have become my go-tos for just general compression and EQ. If I want to get surgical I’ll go with TB or something, but if you just wanna throw something on a track quickly, it doesn’t get much better than that. Peak in particular I love. It’s probably my favorite EQ on the App Store.

I use delay on iphone, its cool. But on ipad only fab timeless :) both have tap tempo which lack all other ios delays

  • Reverb is ok, not much praise from my side. Good for experimental stuff.

  • Thanks for all the feedback! I really appreciate everyone’s comments.

Just one more thing. Is this a correct observation? The AU3FX Apps only work in AUM but not in Audio Share. Audio Share only shows the older AUFX Apps as being available. So you need both if you want to use them in both AUM and Audio Share. Or, settle on just using the older ones in AUM as well as Audio Share if I don’t want to purchase both bundles. Is that correct or am I missing something?

man that’s a pet peeve of mine! i’ve been making some great multi-effect patches in Turnado and love sweeping through the delay rates but if you want dotted delays you also need to enable triplets which simply don’t gel with the music i’m making. would love to skip those rates

fully agree with your point about devs embracing iOS as a chance to let go of some conventions which were only a necessity of hardware

to get back on topic, the AU3FX Dub effect is a favourite of mine, it’s got such well thought-through parameters that most delays don’t have, really gives it a lot of character

i own the others and need to explore them more. will load up Peak now and give it a whirl

I find it far more useful if I dial back (sometimes way back) the wet/dry mix in every one of the presets.

I have 2 and use dub all the time it’s my go to delay. Reverb is well done and great, I use it but have lots of reverbs. They are both straightforward, basic layout, easy to use, super low on CPU, and effective. The other 2 have been on my list for awhile but I have other options there as well. So I’ve put those off.

What @wim said. I use them a lot, especially Dub and Space, and I have many other fine delay and reverb options. Push, too.

  • The original AUFX with blue were released before AU was around, so they are IAA only. The new AU3FX the green ones were released in the last few years in AUv3.

Audioshare only loads IAA fx, but I don’t do a lot of fx loading in audioshare. You can easily do the same exact thing that you want to do in audioshare with fx, in AUM with FX, using the AU3FX. Whether you are applying fx to an audio file or recording audio with the fx applied, that shame action can be done in AUM. So there’s really no need for blue IAA, just get the green ones, and use AUM instead of audioshare for recording or file playing. I use audioshare to store, and preview audio, and sometimes record clean audio.

That’s good to know. I’m glad you asked for that feature. As for desktop vs iPad, when my old MacBook Pro broke and I was only able to replace it with an iPad, I thought I was really going to miss “the computer.” But, quite the opposite has happened. I’ve come to love the touch screen iPad and certainly appreciate being able to buy and try way more apps. I don’t miss expensive software and expensive upgrades. The best reason to get a Mac now, for me, is for its ability to be able to rescue, reset, restore, any other Apple device, should they go south or get stuck. When the Apple Stores were closed because of rampant COVID, the Mac’s value as an emergency rescue device became really apparent.
