Drambo random MIDI CC out to Surface Builder

edited July 2023 in App Tips and Tricks

I've been using Surface Builder from 4Pockets and having a lot of fun with it, but one of the things I wanted to do was randomize the values of some of the knobs and sliders and other controls, so that I could use it to things like select a random preset or a random LFO value in another app, and be able to tap on a button to do it. Then if I find some settings I like, I can save a snapshot in Surface Builder and set those same values again, and do that up to 12 times. When demoing or experimenting with a project, I can just click on a snapshot to immediately change the settings across multiple apps, and AUM.

This video shows how to use Drambo to send a random CC value from 0-127 to Surface Builder to a knob control. It's basically a proof of concept and an example of how to create this in Drambo. It can be used to send to any app, and the random range can be adjusted to modify the values to a smaller or larger interval by increasing it to below 1.0 or to higher values.

If there is interest in seeing a fully realized setup with multiple randomizers, knobs, buttons and a apps connected using the feature, let me know in the comments and I'll create a vid for that too.

I'm just getting started, so if there are better/more sophisticated ways to do this, please feel free to chime in. My goal is to share what I learned on this with others that may find it useful.
