Have you tried of desktop? If so how are they? I’m looking forward to this honestly.
They're quite good and compact.
If I had to choose by size and to save storage space, it would be MusicLab guitars.
If I had to choose by sound and playability (well, I'd better say programmability 😄) then it's AmpleSound.
My personal choice is AmpleSound on desktop but they eat between 4 and 8 GB of storage per instrument. That riff editor and the available choice of articulations is really good and they also offer excellent bass guitars, again with enough articulations to build a decent riff.
That's not to say either is bad. The Musiclabs seem to be very popular and they've been refined over the years too.
If you don't want to invest enough time and patience to program riffs in general then I'd recommend a guitar loop library, ideally a sliced one that can be tweaked a lot more easily.
I've used guitar riff REX files in Gadget a lot and although limited to what's in the loops, they work quite well and are much more fun to use quickly. Building a decent riff in MusicLab or AmpleSound takes time. And if you mainly rely on pre-made riffs then why not just use loops anyway 😉
Those combined with Piano motifs new power chords feature could be interesting 🤔
Where do you find the Rex files for that btw? I’m iPad only so I’m limited to what apps come to iPad OS, but this one does seem great. I don’t make guitar heavy music, I usually use it for experimental stuff, sampling, and loops. But having some that high quality would be awesome since I have no space for my guitars anymore. I love Pianoteqs acoustic and the electrified preset is great but this seems really deep.

Interesting! Not heard of these on desktop before. Wonder what the pricing will be. Would love this in iPad however have Amplesound and the two Kontakt Session guitarists on desktop so wouldn't dosh out much for the convenience.
Speaking off, I wonder if we'll ever see Kontakt on iPad?

I used to collect as many REX loops as I could get (doing regular searches on the net) and I did a few for myself too, using Propellerheads ReCycle which I still use at times on my old mbp.
I've also jumped in the 9V Audio deal many years ago when they sold their entire REX loop collection for almost nothing.
Not sure if 9VA still exist today.
For a start, try searching for "free rex rx2 guitar". Some sites have demo packs to download which also include RX2 loops.

Which they lost interest in a long time ago and eventually dumped. Can’t really see them wanted to go back to iOS based on their record so far.

Just like reason studios they brought something half cooked, and about 1/10 strength and expected everyone to oooo and ahhhh over it….Even beathawk was better than Imaschine. You can’t come to a platform where independent developers are making fantastic apps and drop a majorly weak version of your platform and expect people will clamor aboard. Look if reason would have came to iOS fully and gave you 3-4 of the basics and made the rest of the rack buy ala gadget style…people would have been all in. But we got figure and reason compact wow…all whilst there was caustic 3 and Korg gadget…the latter of which was cooking up…and then reason even dropped a dang octarex gadget in it…wtf? As a flex. Before that they dropped full on THOR…just wasn’t an auv3…cuz if it was it would still be in my iPad. Let’s call it what it is…they didn’t see the iPad as a thing that was going to stay, sad, because the desktop is what is going to eventually go away…it’ll be the laptop first…then the desktop. Then what? Well they will die…or come aboard I reckon.
Mark my words…the mobile platform will be here when the laptops and desktops are no more…it’s evolution
And Apple will unveil the iPad Pro ultra soon with m3 and 14.1” display…
So the line is getting harder to see.
NI, this giant in music business, if iMaschine was all they could provide to mobile platforms, that’s pretty sign of uninterest to our platform…
Luckily, we have already a bunch of great software, and, the lack of NI software isn’t too painful…
That would be great and I agree with a lot of this but I don’t see apple cannibalizing their products just yet. In a few years that could definitely be the case though.
I hope this runs on my iPad mini 5 and isn't too huge. I'm already drooling over the possibilities of this combined with Riffler.
I agree with you. it’s not going to be immediate…
I have a few on desktop. They're actually not huge in size, but they offer so many articulations and ways to access them (Different art's can be mapped to velocities over and under certain levels. Great for muted, pinched harmonics etc.)
