Thumbjam V.Tilt broken?

edited September 2014 in General App Discussion

Just noticed that v.tilt for volume does not seem to work on latest version. V.tilt works fine for bend, but even with minimum set real low no difference when used on volume. Is there another setting I am missing? Volume works fine on X.axis

  • If you have midi in enabled and active it actually disables vtilt for volume, because I figured you might have it sitting on a table, which leads to super quiet audio. Luckily you can disable this safety feature in Prefs->Midi under general options.

  • that was the issue, thanks!

  • I never cease to be impressed with the meticulously thought out midi implementation in TJ. Kudos Mr Jesse. You, sir, are the man.

  • "the man" has attributed this feature to luck. see above.

Thumbjam may be the luckiest app I've got.

  • I don't think he was saying "I got lucky". I believe he was saying that "luckily" there is a switch to turn the setting I carefully thought out (as evidenced by the ability to disable the feature) off. Maybe I read it wrong.

no, you're right. I'm having a bit of fun here. I thought it funny for Sonosaurus to say luck has anything to do with his well-thought out design including a switch to disable it when necessary.

we are all lucky to have this great app, can't wait for some of the upcoming features like redesign of the sampling/ instrument creation.

  • Ah, I'm a little slow. I should avoid posting before I've had adequate amounts of caffeine.

  • I have a feeling the old 'the harder I work, the luckier I get' might come into play. Unless, you know, he really is just, you know, lucky. Awesome app nonetheless.

  • To be honest, all those options are more the result of lack of design, and a haphazard evolution of features over five years. I'll be the first to acknowledge that!

For instance, I still haven't done a full-on midi learn implementation that I'm sure would be useful to some of you. Instead I tried to make use of standard conventions to make the common case easier for most (including myself).

And yes, a nice sampler instrument creation interface will be nice when I get there.

    That is very insightful, thanks.

While I'm glad Thumbjam is so feature-rich... I sometimes daydream at the thought of you teaming up with a great UI designer who can infuse that "haphazard evolution of features" with a killer user interface. ...ya know, so we can have the best of both worlds :-)

No hurry though, keep enjoying what you do and we'll consider ourselves lucky to get to enjoy the result.
