And for the record, I didn't intend disrespect. The song was made out of love and blending of different musical traditions, not just one tradition. :)

And to wade into the potentially risky issues raised by my good friend @JanKun I think it was nothing to do with cancel culture or censorship - he was merely raising the issue of cultural awareness.

I think as Westerners we inevitably think of Eastern culture in terms of well-worn stereotypes, and the whole continent gets mixed up in our minds. But Jankun lives in Japan so he has a much greater awareness of how the Japanese feel about the way they are represented in Western media.

But imagine for a second if someone made an album of Irish music but put a Union Jack on the cover: people in Ireland would be incredibly upset. Or if someone made an album of Croatian folk music and then called it Serbian, same thing, people would be upset.

For Japanese people conflating their very ancient and specific culture with Chinese culture would be similar to conflating French culture with German, or Mexican culture with the US. Japan and China are very different places with ancient and distinct cultures.

I can see what you did there 🤔, understand you want to help your good friend but you don’t need to regurgitate whole debate again. @jwmmakerofmusic understood what happened and @JanKun realized that he could explain some things in different ways.

I was very careful and polite with wording, and have nothing against @JanKun as you can see from my posts (still not edited). Please don’t involve me in this conversation again. I’m atm in the process of finding a good panpipes instrument for iPad, I won't let anyone spoil that moment. Help with recommendations are welcome of course. ;)

We need to continue to join forces and build on friendship, exchange experiences, collaborate and help each other. 😍

I like the panpipes in Pure Synth Platinum. I think they're in the factory content IAP. I'll check later. :)

Like in the US, when a form asks for race, they usually list "White", "African American", "Indigenous", "Asian", "Hispanic", etc).

I would troll US oficcials very hard, by stating that “white” is for me insult cause my skin definitely is not white, but more like pink or even a bit brown in summer 🤣

Here proof my hand on white background.

  • @dendy Hahahahaha! 😂🤣🤣

@Luxthor Of course mate. Hopefully they are what you're looking for. Let me know. :)

  • A ear worm of a melody indeed! I can see why you HAD to record it - and what a great job you have done. Very professional sounding. A nice mix and very pleasant to listen to.

Thank you so much for your wonderful compliments mate. :) That means so much to me.

  • As a Japanese person, I am very grateful to Mr. @Jankun and Mr. @richardyot.
And I give kudos to Mr. @JWM for turning a subject that is probably my country into a piece of music.

At first, I started writing my impressions of the music to Mr. JWM, but it took me a long time because I'm not good at writing English.
In the meantime, you started discussing our history and culture, so I changed the content. Due to the above reasons, I am not good at English, so if there are inappropriate expressions, I apologize in advance.

Mr. Jankun and Mr. richardyot represent most of the parts that many Japanese people feel. thank you very much.

I am always happy to participate in this forum and get useful information. Also, I am often surprised by the differences in how people perceive things due to differences in countries and regions, and sometimes I feel frustrated and silent because I cannot express myself well due to the language barrier.

Mr. JWM's music is by no means discriminatory and can be freely titled as the Japanese "Genji". However, although Mr. richardyot has provided a good analogy, I can understand that, unfortunately, from the perspective of people in European countries, it is common for people in distant Asian countries to think of the differences as trivial.
However, although Japan is an island country and has various roots mainly from China and neighboring countries, it has its own history and culture, which is very different from those countries.
I feel that the word "Asia" is not very appropriate because it encompasses a wider range of countries than the forum members imagine. If you're strictly speaking, it should be the East Asian region, which would make things even more complicated.

And even more unfortunately, I think this song is a little different from the Japanese "Genji". (Mr. JanKun wrote about Genji from a Japanese point of view, but it is very difficult for a Japanese person to create a song with the title of Genji.) Of course, I think Mr. JWM is free to make any kind of music with any kind of impression.
However, when someone pointed out something, I thought that it was necessary to have the humility to respect the history and culture of the country and listen to those opinions.

The difference I feel for Mr. JMW's Genji is the melody used in the music, the album artwork, and the title. I think it would be fine if the title was something like "Trance featuring Japanese Genji" or "Genzo" as a fictitious creation. Also, the word "Asia" is unnecessary, and I think it would be good to add a note that it is Mr. JWM's own interpretation from the United States.

As an aside, when we Japanese take up ancient Japanese works, it is necessary to make them feel "wa" somewhere, and I think that "wabi-sabi" is important. (Wabi-Sabi means beauty of impermanence, ephemeral beauty, melancholy, tranquility, and many others.)
Japanese people (Yamato people) have Japanese 'Wa' including 'Wabi-Sabi' in their minds, and I think it is difficult to convey this to people in other countries and to have them understood. Without these, I think it would be difficult to express Japanese style and it would end up like Chinese music.

Sorry for the long post, but we Japanese are happy that many people are taking up Japanese culture and traditions. I don't correct them one by one. If it's a big mistake, I might say no, but as long as there are Mr. JanKun and Mr. richardyot here who can convey Japan more accurately than I am, I don't think I need to say any more as a Japanese person. I would be honored if everyone in this forum understands even a little bit of the true Japan, and if there are aspects of Japan that you think are good or that you can agree with, I would be honored to have you continue to spread them.

Lastly, I've written very rude things to Mr. JWM, but I'd like to write one more thing about music. I think it's a very interesting and well-organized work if you listen to it purely as Asian-style trance music without the title or album artwork. I am looking forward to hearing your challenging music from the United States, one of my favorite countries. thank you very much.

I’m both grateful and sad for this experience, because I’m in love with that continent. Those instruments, styles and rich musical culture. I never thought about how serious problems there are. I will never stop exploring, researching and learning from world music. Only this time I will be extremely cautious about naming anything. Thank you @RXQ02165! 🫶

p.s. Just checked all my projects and found only one name connected with a real life location, it’s the island ‘Krk’. I got inspiration there, already renamed to ‘Isle’.

  • @RXQ02165 Cheers mate. 🙂 I'm glad you were able to explain these things to me. And you weren't rude. You were informative.

I can always rename a piece of music and change the artwork. This is no problem.

Upon listening to the piece, I think I can rename it to "the journey" as it has the feeling of going on a journey.

  • @RXQ02165 I did some changes mate.

No, you were able to convince me just by showing me your very gentlemanly and flexible attitude.
What I have presented is a suggestion and an opinion. So there is no need to change the title or album artwork if Mr. JWM understands.
Also, don't be too nervous. If you think about things that are too cramped, the range of making music will be narrow.

It's the same with other threads, but maybe it's because of my English ability, but I don't seem to be able to convey the fine nuances to everyone in the forum.
I may be making people on the forums feel uncomfortable, so I'll try to keep quiet for a while.

But I am always amazed at how quickly you get to work. The music production is amazingly fast and amazingly amazing!

World music is a very difficult field. I respect you.
This is a duplicate of what I wrote earlier, but this is just my opinion, and if you think about it too nervously, your music production will shrink.
To tell the truth, I didn't pay much attention to the titles of my songs.
But it also made me realize that I have to be cautious. I will pay attention to your music in the future. Thank you for your response

  • @RXQ02165 You don't make me uncomfortable. ❤️ Stay here mate. 🙂

I didn't realise it was the title and artwork of my song. It was difficult for me to wrap my head around what was causing the controversy. But I fixed it, and it should be fine now. The music remains the same. It's not like I registered the song with the copyright office nor submitted it to BMI or ASCAP (two music organisations).

And thank you for the compliments. :) That means a lot to me.

i never actively learned english, what i know is just from decades of existence on forums, watching EN movies and reading EN synth manuals lol - so i am obviously no expert - but i have zero problem perfectly understand everything you wrote.

And your posts have true value, so just keep posting them !
