The world is always more complicated than it seems and we have a tendency to “sell solutions” to raise the
Funds needed to implement them. Remember DDT? How about the Mongoose solution for snakes in Hawaii?
There are no snakes in Hawaii… but there are a lot of Mongeese, I believe.
The cure is often then next problem needing to be addressed.
How about throwing massive amounts of chemicals into the atmosphere to cool the earth? At the end of the day it’s not the solutions that win the day… it’s the profits from the next big idea like Musk’s “Boring Co” that puts 2 lane highways underground so we can drive faster. What could go wrong?
Will we be allowed to throw our limited expertise at these questions without being shut down?
(PS. I checked out the “Tim Urban” book and it’s pretty controversial). I like a heated discussion but these topics can lead to food fights or worse.
It’s always the “Other” (as in topic) that’s the problem. I hope most sensitive souls skip the “Other” and don’t complain.

Food fights will have to stop anyway. With the announced mercury rise, the whole world will soon be fighting for food. And it's going to be the dirtiest fight ever.
@McD they said they will use the plastic to make new products. Humankind has prevailed over its own nature. That we have society at all and the majority of people that follow the rules in itself is a major miracle. The mobilization by the US for WWII was a bigger job than picking up garbage.
Sure there have been five major extinctions and we’re probably in the midst of the sixth, but the fact that people come up with novel solutions has always bailed the human race out.
In this video you see the solution in action. There’s an Atlantic Gyre, too. I’m optimistic… at least about this.
OK, if we’re going to do this… I’ll share the solution. The aliens will bail us out. They are waiting until after the election and then they will dispatch the clean up crews. “Childhoods End”. They are learning Ukrainian because it’s the only national that has a pair and will stand up to bullies and risk all for freedom.
