Cinematic Soundtrack For A Sci-Fi Porn Flick
I had been away from music for a long time. Many new genres had developed over the years. Does this fit in anywhere?
I got a lot of great suggestions and decided to go with this. I added the Sci-Fi Porn just for fun.
FYI - the track has nothing to do with one's birthright. It was just something I was talking about with a friend earlier, and it was the first thing that came to mind when I started the project.

I have no idea what it’s called but I like it.
It sounds good. There must be a genre it can fit in but does it really matter ? You were mentioning you liked Mogwai in another thread. Am I wrong thinking that you got some inspiration from their album "Rock Action" ? There are similar elements in the production (Dave Fridmann is an amazing producer!)
I just listened to Dry Fantasy and I can hear a few things. I really like them. Thanks for the recommendation.
I’m rather enjoying that it’s undefined! Perhaps @jwmmakerofmusic will weigh in. He has knowledge in these genre things.
Quite a mixture of sounds in there! What about Post-Industrial Electro-Hip Hop
cinematic … movie soundtrack
I suppose it needs a genre. Otherwise how will the people find it?
I go for Electronic when I'm unsure Great song man!
It's all rock and roll to me.
Industrial, Electronica , Big Beat, Cinematic, Downtempo,
I would say it falls in the category of "soundtrack". I could easily hear this in a FPS videogame.
That said, I really love it!
Trip Hop, Industrial, Down Tempo, Ambient, Gothic
cool track. something about it reminds me of Theatre of Tragedy
@ecou @JanKun @AlterEgo_UK @dendy @robosardine (love that name!) @Pxlhg @setAI @taeo @jwmmakerofmusic @shinyisshiny Thank you all for your thoughts and input. Have a great day!
I think Paulieworld is a genre in its own right… nothing else needed 👌
I can definitely hear some industrial inspiration here. As @jwmmakerofmusic said, very FPS video game inspired as well.
Great track overall! Are the vocal samples you? Also which synths and drum machines are you using? Curious about your process!
I would not try to squeeze this in any genre yet. It is futuristic and thematic to be part of any movie soundtrack. I love how the guitar section introduced more suspension and excitement to the whole theme. My imagination goes wild while listening to this song. I don’t want to just see this imaginary movie, I want to be in it.
Fantastic work, I enjoyed listening. 🤩
@HotStrange @Luxthor The synth in the beginning is Mitosynth. I think I used either FugueMachine or Piano Motifs to control it. My process is probably different than most would use. When I started using an iPad for music, I knew absolutely nothing about them. I was away from all music for about 15 years. Prior to that I had used Cakewalk and a few others. I never heard of AUM and just started with Cubasis because it looked familiar. I didn’t know about generative apps and just started using the MIDI editor. When I discovered FugueMachine and Piano Motifs it was like a revelation! Apps like that are necessary for me because I don’t use any external gear, just the iPad. In the beginning I noticed the the CPU indicator appeared to be pushing the limit, even though I now know I still had a lot more capacity. To fix that I started freezing the tracks to cut down on CPU processing. I also disconnected the synth for the same reason. I figured, once I had a good sound, I didn’t need it anymore. I still had the MIDI data and could always come back and change it later. For that reason, I often forget what synths I used. I also freeze audio tracks with the effects in place to cut down on CPU usage.
When I create a song, I do it in sections. That is, part A might be tracks 1 - 8, part B is 9 - 15, etc. Each section starts at a different location on the timeline. As a result, I often have 30, 40, or more tracks in a song. I set levels for each section, so there is no final mixing involved. Everything is audio data only. The benefit to this is that the final mixdowns only take a few seconds.
I almost forgot, the vocals are just samples from Blocs Wave. I use that often. The samples are pretty decent and cheap. A typical sample pack may contain dozens of sounds. If I can use 4 or 5, then it’s worth the price to me.The major downside is that all the effects, I.e. reverb, delay, etc. are already burned in and it’s hard to get rid of them. I have used noise gates on a few with good results. If I like the effect, I just keep it.
I have tried using AUM, but it doesn’t give me the control I want. However, I often use it to connect and route synths that don’t work in Audiobus. I use Audiobus for just about everything. It’s ironic that this is the Audiobus Forum, but nobody seems to use it.
I hope that answers your questions. When I don’t include a lot of production details, it’s only because I don’t remember what I did at the time. I also like to have a drink or two when I’m working!
I used to play in bands, but I don’t anymore. I love doing an occasional collaboration with other members. It’s not like playing live in a band for an audience, but it’s the next best thing. I just finished one, but it’s not getting much attention. I hope you can give a listen if you get a chance.
Thanks for your comments. Have a great day!
Thanks a ton! I love hearing about people’s processes so this was an interesting read. It’s almost equally as fascinating to the music itself, imo. The iPad has been a godsend for me musically. I’m so much more inspired on iOS than anything else I’ve used in the past and it’s great for learning.
Glad you’ve been having fun with it too 🙏
Also I will say, I think a lot of us still have Audiobus but tend to veer towards AUM now. I just prefer it’s workflow, but I do still break out Audiobus occasionally and I do still love it a lot.
