As Stars Go Out One By One

This is based on the last paragraph of The Nine Billion Names Of God, by Arthur C. Clarke.

Everything is from MIDI generated in Piano Motifs by @azul3D_Apps, cut up, edited, and arranged in Cubasis. The mix is a bit dense, but after trying to “fix” it, I went back to the original. It is what it is.

  • It certainly has a movie soundtrack sound.

I was wondering how you were going to end it…

…and the ending was perfect for the subject matter.

    Good job!

That was a really great short story, wasn’t it? I read it over forty years ago in college and the sudden end, and the way Clarke downplayed it was just brilliant. I am very happy to have done it justice. Thank you for your comment.

  • This one segues nicely with @Svetlovska's earlier creation based on the same story.

  • Nice one @Paulieworld. I like the title, need to read the short story.

I must have listened and stored it way back in my subconscious unitl it found it's way out as I created this. So, thank you @Svetlovska. I think @barabajagal also did an excellent version. It is a great story and worthy of many interpretations. I hadn't read it or thought about it decades. It was in a book called "Science Fiction Hall of Fame" that included works by Asimov, Heinlein, Clarke, and several of the other usual suspects. Thanks for listening!

I think you would enjoy it, even though you know how it ends!

I am still loving Piano Motifs. Whenever I need an idea, I can always turn to PM. It never disappoints. Thanks for listening!

I like it, but the drone (kind of a tonal that starts at the beginning and goes throughout) seems too loud to me. I was thinking as I listened maybe the level should come down a bit and add more washy reverb? But just my opinion. Good piece and keep making more!

I absolutely agree. There are actually two drones. Tracks 1 and 2 have Mitosynth pads playing some MIDI from Piano Motifs. One has a low filter and the other a high filter, with some panning. There are also 2 instances of Pure Piano with different EQ panned apart. There is a little delay on the right side that tails off slightly. I thought it sounded good in the first mix, but after a while it just became annoying. I spent way too much time trying to fix it, so I just went to bed. My ears were fatigued and I was tired of listening to it. The next morning I got up early and listened with fresh ears. It sounded terrible, so I just posted the original and decided to move on to something else. I have decided to just post everything even if it's not "perfect". Earlier this month I posted two "heavy metal" tracks as sort of a joke. To my surprise, they both got over 300 listens each! That's a lot for me. Go figure. I guess you just never know what people will like.

I appreciate your comments and take them seriously. Please feel free to offer your thoughts on both production and the music itself. Thanks for listening!

  • 1.2k listens, holy smoke that must have cost you a lot in bribe money 😊
One of your best I thought, loved the whale song bass sounds and the pizzicato 🙏

This is the one I got First Fanned on! I keep getting plays, so I’m not complaining. I’m hoping people will listen to my other tracks while they’re on my page. I am working on something that I am hoping you can provide a good solo melody for. At the moment it’s titled Cm90bpm. I’m leaving room for you. I hope you’re having a great day!

  • Great name 😊
Great day other than our waters been cut off, a leak somewhere or other, makes you realise how lucky we are to have water, electricity etc. and yet so many people don’t have these essentials ☹️
