Who Use an Apple Watch? Are you happy with it? Why do you have it?

I started recently to exercise more. I'm looking for a device to track my progress for motivation.
The Fitbit is not accurate in many domain. I was thinking about an Apple Watch.

Who got one? Are you happy with it? Why do you have one?

  • It has a lot of built in functions and integrates really well with other Apple devices. Can’t think of any reason why I would get a watch that doesn’t integrate with my phone now.

I had no intention of getting an Apple Watch but I got a great deal on one when I took out health insurance a few yrs ago and I honestly wouldn’t be without it now.
Great for tracking fitness but also paying for things contactlessly, using public transport on the rare occasion I am in London, setting multiple alarms/timers when I am cooking, using it for directions when driving or walking, reading texts without having to get my phone out and controlling music playing apps (eg iPhone playing through Bluetooth speakers/Airplay).
And the wake up alarm is true best I’ve ever had - very gentle.

  • used it the other day as a midi controller it’s was alot of fun. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/midi-motion-for-apple-watch/id6444314230

  • I think it's great myself, use mine almost daily for exercise and GPS tracking my bike rides. Big fan of the Workoutdoors app, and very much looking forward to Apple finally having proper topo maps in WatchOS 17.

  • I use it to replace credit cards for restaurant and store purchasing and to tell time. It’s UI to see steps is awful and they don’t cater to walkers… but running, biking seem to be their target users. I bought an Amazon watch to count steps and save my records but they decided to get out of that business… refunded my purchase price and yet it keeps performing. I wonder if my arm might fall off sometime soon.

You will likely get the best price for an Apple Watch at Costco. Specials in the greater Montreal area pop up about three times a year. I use it for contactless payment. It’s haptic function works well with maps for turn cues when driving. It has a handy calculator I use often. I even have a currency exchange app on it that’s great for travel. Messages are more convient on the watch then from the phone. And more…

  • I bought mine for the sole purpose of listening to music wirelessly while exercising.
I’m aware of all the exercise monitoring functions but I just haven’t used them yet.
    I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

The main focus of mine is sleep tracking, which requires you to recharge it during the day, which some don’t like. (Mine charges from 50% to full in about 30 minutes). But it’s great for checking my calendar, tracking exercise, listening to music and audiobooks, singing in song ideas, using Apple Pay, unlocking my Mac, and turning smart devices on/off. I recently upgraded to the 45mm of version 8, and I surprisingly discovered it’s now much easier to respond to messages, type out quick emails, etc. with my sausage fingers. I even found a tuner that works fairly well. And it’s a watch. :)

(One final note: I use mine to control my music during water aerobics, but all wi-fi/bluetooth signals are cut off immediately when the watch is underwater. So I just use the Spotify app on my phone in my bag, and control it with the watch. Works great.)

Other than having to charge , everyday I love it

Very good tool to measure TDEE

  • Love mine
    Got a good deal
I use an app called GoSUP as I go paddle boarding regularly and it records everything during my 6km route
Paying for things, Apple Music control etc
    It’s great

  • And I also use it to wake me up
With the vibration so I don’t have everyone else hear my alarm at 4.30am, in fact this is in the top 5 best features

The sleep app measures REM. Doesn’t provide notification of REM state, if that’s what you are after.

  • I have an Apple Watch gen6 and are very very glad and delighted With it…

    My main purpose:

Talking in the watch when driving my car
Use the watch to pay in stores (you can use multiple cards)
Like the statistics of my puls, my sleep etc ect…
Nice to see what’s happening on my iPhone when it’s not near me
    Timer when boiling eggs

Plus, a lot of other nice features not mentioned…

  • I don’t think anyone has mentioned its utility as a navigation aid. Coupled to Apple Maps in Carplay, the watch vibrates when you’re nearing your next turn. Incredibly helpful. I also use it with the AllTrails app for hiking in the woods. It’s like having a personal guide on your wrist.

Music wise, I’ve tried using the watch as a haptic metronome, though I still prefer to hear the beat rather than feel it.

I wasn't able to find the Workoutdoors app. Do I have the name correct? Thanks
    Update: found it!

    Edit: oh…didn’t see your update

I've got an Apple Watch that I use mainly during workouts to keep an eye on my heart rate and activity levels. It's pretty handy for that, and the notifications are a plus. But I have to admit. I'm more of a luxury watch enthusiast at heart. I've got quite a collection of them, and each one tells a unique story. There's something about the craftsmanship, the intricate details, and the history behind those watches that really speaks to me. Speaking of luxury watches, I recently came across some info on how to Pawn my Rolex. It's intriguing to think about the value some of these pieces can hold. As for fitness tracking, if that's your main goal, the Apple Watch could be a solid option. But for me, it's all about the blend of style and functionality that my luxury watches bring to the table.

  • Oh yeah
I paddle board all the time and there’s an app called GoSUP which tracks everything, and goes in water lock mode when I start the Watch app, great addition, and also having Apple Maps on my wrist when walking around London for directions is handy

  • My fiancé has one and loves it. She uses it less now just because life’s been hectic but I’d definitely like to get one soon as well.

One of the best uses for the Apple Watch is... Apple Pay! Seriously. I know this kind of payment is probably already more common in the UK, but not having to dig out the iPhone or the wallet, two clicks on the "side button" (not the "crown") and hold the Watch to any payment terminal that accepts Apple Pay and I'm done. I use that feature more than anything. And if the watch gets stolen, no one else can make charges... better than a credit card or cash.

And then I use it to track my heart rate and distance when I exercise outdoors. Like that kind of data collection a lot also.

  • Hows the battery life, is there any apple watch that can survive for more than a day or two?

  • Maybe just the Ultra, depends on how you use it really. I have a series 8 and I can get a solid two days out of it if I'm not doing any GPS tracking and just day to day use. I don't wear it to bed either, which can obviously impact things more.

The Watch charges pretty damn fast though.

Even if the Watch is low on power, it'll recharge in less than 1/2 hour with its wireless magnetic power connector. And I regularly get more than 2 days of charge with mine (and it's not even the latest model, maybe three years old).

  • I charge mine every day, but I do wear it at night to track my sleep.

Some things I really like (I've had a series 6 for the last two and a half years):

    • Excellent sleep tracking, including sleep stages.
    • Heart Variability measurement (using the Breathe app for one minute): this is a really good marker for how well you've slept and how you are likely to feel on any given day. The correlation between low HRV and feeling tired is pretty much 100% for me.
    • Apple pay on your wrist, it's so quick - great on the tube as well
    • Never need to check notifications on your phone, you can check them with a glance at your wrist
    • Siri for timers etc
    • Tracking steps and exercise, as well as resting heart rate

I love geeking out on all the metrics, but especially the sleep and HRV, it's helped me form better habits.
