  • Thanks for the tip! I use OwnHammer IRs exclusively.

  • Nice! I bought the (r)evolution bundle a few years back and figured I have guitar cabinet IRs covered, but I’ll always be happy to get a freebie!

You're welcome! Glad I can give you a little something back (your contributions on the forum about IR and Amp SIM helped a lot throughout the years!) Also glad to see you're still on the forum, haven't seen you comment for a while.
BTW, Have you tried Tonex? Would be curious to hear your opinion !

(r)evolution gives the best bang for the buck ! It is rare to get freebie from OWNHAMMER, glad it is useful for you !

With construction on the house and two kids, it’s been hard to find time for iOS music production. I’m still around and keep up though!

I haven’t really messed with Tonex too much, but I did find a few patches that sounded great. No doubt the tones are on par or better than the competition. I’m not really a fan of the user experience and the whole ecosystem though. It’s kind of like the Netflix of guitar patches, too much to sift through. Then you have the $400 stomp box which doesn’t have a re-amp option for capturing and is essentially the same patch loader as the free iOS app, but with tactile knobs rather than touchscreen. So if you have an iPad/iPhone and a midi foot controller, you have the same thing as the stomp box they sell. I don’t get it. The rig capturing tech is really cool, but you need a re-amp box to do it, on top of an audio interface. So I haven’t had too much interest on iOS for what is essentially a patch loader app. I still think Tonex could have been an IAP inside an AUv3 version of Amplitube 5, kind of like the Rigs inside TH-U. Instead it feels like I’m sifting through BitTorrent on the dark web somewhere. That’s just a gut reaction, I’m sure it’s great for others.

Recently I’ve been going back to hardware and still perfecting a hybrid set-up. I have a tube head that can go to regular cab and direct to daw (no eq) simultaneously so I’m playing with a dual amp set-up where one side is my amp and pedalboard and the other side goes direct to interface/AUM. So it’s fun to play with parallel paths, one with hardware pedals, the other with plugins…

  • Thanks for the tip man! The CLSC-E5 loaded in Nembrinis IR loader sounds pretty good. :)

  • @JanKun thanks for the tip! Ownhammers are the best and I bet these will be, too.

I did some comparing for my own pleasure of OwnHammer free cab ir vs Spectre Sound studio free cab ir vs the stock Nembrini. If anybody is interested.

Man did that hurt my fingers. I need to start playing again.

The Spectre sound free cab. You can put anything in the fields.

Which one do you prefer ?

  • Thanks for sharing @JanKun

  • Awesome, thanks for the link.

  • Thanks @JanKun! Sounds good, especially for free. I also have the (r)evolution bundle.
I recently switched to York Audio and prefer them. Worth checking out - I think he used to work for OH.

@pbelgium I Heard that York Audio are good but haven't tried. I am actually happy that I got myself out of the IR rabbit hole. This is a very personal opinion, but I feel that the long search for the "right" IR usually only improves the sound by less than 5%, improvement that more than 95% people won't notice... OWNHAMMER IRs do the job well for me. Recently, I also regularly end up using the IR provided in Nembrini or Logic Pro and manage to get where I want...🫣 Glad I stopped overthinking, but most careful guitarists might think I sound like crap

Same. I have a hard and fast rule of spending absolutely no more than five minutes picking an IR. I keep only a half dozen on hand. The only way I make a change after that is if on later listening I hear something I don't like that I have a strong feeling can be fixed by a particular IR. (almost never happens)

Almost the same on the last sentence with a few edits: Glad I stopped overthinking, but most careful guitarists might usually think I sound like crap.

Glad to have you onboard @wim !
Messy playing set aside (I am not a shredder) I think my telecaster doesn't sound too bad on this one. I especially like the sharp razorblade pick attack that reminds me a bit of Alvin Lee (tone wise, I wouldn't dare to compare the playing...)
I used the exact same 5 minutes rule as yours to dial a tone using Nembrini provided set of IR inside Overdrive Special.

  • So I have the files loaded into THAFKNAR but when I try to unpack it says failed to install. Anyone else having any issues?

  • I’ve been stuck in the IR rabbit hole for like a month. Pls help

On the device itself it’s in the files app, and in THAFKNAR it’s under files. I see it but when I long press and tap unpack it says it failed.

What are the preset names? I’m wondering if it’s already installed under the convulsion tab and I’m accidentally trying to install a second time and that’s why it’s not working. Idk what the actual IRs themselves are called though.

Does the error message include more words? Or is Failed the only word in the error message? The zip unpacks fine for me

Sorry for the delay in my reply. Here’s what I’m getting

  • @HotStrange : that looks like something is wrong with the zip file. Yours is only 22bytes compared to the 4.3 MB shown in my screenshot.

If you unzip the zip in files app what is inside?

The unzipped file contains folders with all the samples for the IR from 44100 hz to 96000 hz. I’m not sure what exactly is the issue or where things went wrong lol

  • Do you see that in your screenshot that the zip shows as being only 22B and has a different name from the zip file I have?

Btw, you might want to create a zip with just the files of interest such as the Summary folder of the sample rate you will use.
