Music App Detectives, help me identify the app being used in this Negativland video!
Hi everyone! I recently watched this video of Negativland doing a performance, and I was really interested in the app being used by Jon Leidecker in the bottom right corner on what appears to be an iPad.
The app looks like it allows you to play 4 (maybe more) samples/tracks simultaneously with the waveform streaming up the screen, but you can manipulate them freely, pausing them, reversing them, slowing them down and speeding them up, all by touch.
It seems like a very interesting take on a tape looper, but with the freedom to manipulate the track in a way you couldn't with tape. It's entirely possible that it's some kind of customized thing within a DAW, but it looks like a dedicated app.
I know there are things like Gauss that do something similar to this, and I know I could probably get something close with running 4 instances of it in AUM, but if this is an app on iOS that I'm just missing, I'd love to know what it is!

I want to know, too!
Pretty sharp eye to notice that, and welcome to the audiobus forums!
Bumping this to the top, with a screenshot:
@Lumiras @johnfromberkeley could it be djay?

Edit: I think I'm convinced, this is djay in four-deck mode
@Grandbear that's it! Thank you so much for your keen eye and digging, now to go mess with some samples!
Well done!
The initial description is spot on too!
WHOA….first time I’ve ever seen one of my greatest influences mentioned here…discovering Negativland, John Zorn and Frank Zappa in college changed my life (even if they made me think “yup, everything’s already been done before”).
Pardon the thread jack but I just had to pop in and say “Good Hello” 😁
Oh yeah, I need to thank @Lumiras for bringing them up in the first place, I had a very interesting weekend going through their stuff, and I'm hoping I get to seem them perform live at some point
Yea, i believe you are correct. I knew it was one of the better iOS DJ apps but wasn’t sure which one. Good eye.
I doubt very seriously it is the Casey Kasem App.
A little “joke” for my fellow Negativeland buffs 😸
1985 in Berkeley for me. They were right over the hill in Concord.
Hadn’t heard of these guys before. Enjoyed this:
Any specific song recommendations?
