Classic FM sounds with a modern twist!
TriplexClassic takes inspiration from famous digital synthesizers of the 80s and puts them in an easy-to-use, accessible interface. The synth engine was developed from the ground up to facilitate sounds ranging from pristine modern FM sounds to crunchy bit-crushed mayhem - with everything in between. It is equipped with 6 highly specialized macro controls that makes it easy to set up without any tedious programming.
Features:
- 3 operator FM synth engine with up to 8 voices
- Macro controls over FM amount, harmonicity, phase and bit resolution (labeled "redux"), attack, combined decay/release and sustain
- LFO with shape control (sine, triangle, ramp up, ramp down, square, random) and user definable destination
- Drive control
KNOWN ISSUES:
As of right now the standalone app does not support incoming Midi. Please use TriplexClassic hosted as an AUv3 plugin.

Huh, interesting, could this be taking a cue from the Digitone engine? I really like how Elektron managed to condense FM into a reduced set of parameters. Maybe a paid version could add algorithm selection (as AU param for p-locking in Drambo).
Dope it’s free!
His channel strip app his fantastic and gets used on almost all my tracks now, so I have faith this will be great too. Wonder if a fully featured paid version is coming?
As soon as I play even a single note on this using the aum keyboard I get a stuck note. Pressing all notes off in aum doesn't fix it, the only thing I can do is reload the app, and then the same thing happens as soon as I play the first note.
Doesn't happen when I use Xequence Keys to play it. Anyone else experiencing this, or have any thoughts on what the cause could be?
I'm getting the same thing, stuck note in AUM. No apparent stucks in ApeMatrix, to continue the investigation.... also, KB-1 keyboard works in AUM without stucks.
Hm, seems fine for me in AUM being played by ShiftBud? Also: all parameters exposed for MIDILFOs goodness. This is a cool little thing.
To be fair, it’s a beautiful note
It seems likely it's only the aum keyboard it has a problem with.
Lol
I haven’t downloaded the app yet (been a busy day) but I’ll report back if I have any issues.
THIS is very cool, sounds great. I wonder if there will be a payed version as well.
I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I have hanging notes triggering it with just ZOA MIDI in AUM.
Side note: Cubasis keyboard works.
I thought it was something to do with the LFO, it seems to open the gate…
It says ‘up to 8 voices’ but can only select 7 (not a big deal for me).
Awww - iPad only 😢
Here is my demo for TriplexClassic, sounds great when I add in AudioKits FREE Reverb App.
I also add in a bit of FAC Chorus just for extra lushness.
Great app for free.
Same problem with AUM keyboard, and the lack of a release on the envelope seems like a gaping omission. KB-1 seems OK. Which is weird, because if I use my SQ-1 to convert MIDI to CV/gate for my Mavis, KB-1 results in stuck notes and AUM’s keyboard is fine. 🤷♂️
I don’t like criticising something that’s been offered for free, and maybe I’m just missing something - will try to make time to watch Doug’s video later. It’s not an instant hit with me, but I should probably give it more work. So far I mostly just get a noise burst on every key press if I fiddle with the controls…
@bygjohn I will say that I am using a MIDI keyboard to play and experienced no problems, but I didn’t try it with AUMs keyboard.
Hopefully the developer will get it sorted, even if an app is free it should work as expected.
It says it has 3 operators, but I only hear 2.
Yes, there’s definitely a problem. Happens with ZOA, too. I found reducing the voices to one temporarily kills the stuck note, and I’ve found it easier to get usable sounds out of it since watching your video. It’s a bit limited sonically, but it’s free, so fair enough. If they can fix the stick notes it’s a bargain.
should have used a free chorus for the extra freeness
I’m actually really enjoying this app. Its simplistic approach is what makes it distinct. I love an app that deceptively simple and this nails it. Plus the LFO included is a great addition.
They just dropped two new ones.
wish it could store presets
None of these apps have inbuilt preset systems. Worth emailing the dev to request.
i created some presets by using AUM user presets but they got messed up whith the latest update.
@Gavinski: yeah might be worth it to contact the dev
I’m guessing it’s free, for now, as a gateway app to the other paid for ones. gotta say I’m tempted as TriplexClassic sounds great and is elegant in it’s simplicity
i wonder why this one is the free version and not the others
As Scrape said, a lot of devs decide to make sth free in order to draw attention to their other stuff. The other apps are good! Very interesting, geared towards the experimental, nice big clear UIs.
i mean this is the one that money should be charched for
