ios 16.6 update
hi,
iam still on 16.5, someone had problems after updating to 16.6?
thanks
Comments
Curious also ??
yes 😀
as long as all my apps work i will stay where iam.
No known issues with 16.6. 16.5.1 fixed the USB Camera connection thigh for lightning based devices.
16.6.1 or 16.7 is around the corner...
...and later on 17...
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
It was broke, that's why they fixed it.
No problems at all. I have been updating within days of each release for some time now as there really haven’t been major issues with a release for quite some years.
Except the CCK breaking in 16.5…!
No issues as far as I can tell, on 16.6 since release.

FWW, 16.5 was a disaster for people with a lightning cck. And the fix took over a month to be released.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I had no issues with any 16.x version and i almost always use the iPad with the lightning cck dongle ...
The issue was that the iPad would not charge when using the cck in 16.5. It was a well-documented problem fixed in 16.5.1. It was widely discussed on AB forum at the time.
You want major issues, just start getting into HomeKit. Breaking changes with every release!
one reason for updates is security, about a year ago iPads were suspectable to hacking before a new update.
"If it ain't broke don't fix it." is a great rule. Unfortunately security vulnerabilities are breaks. Sometimes serious ones. In this case, the last few rounds of security updates have been addressing some very real vulnerabilities.
The last few patches have been mainly security updates. Unfortunately, there are times when Apple does break things we need by removing or altering functionality rather than fully fixing it. That's rare though.
It's a very good idea to keep your devices that are used online as up to date as possible. Some would say it's critical update immediately. I take the view that there's little risk in waiting a few weeks or a month to be sure. I figure the odds of me running into your typical vulnerability over the course of a few weeks is very, very low.
For updates that aren't just about security though? I wait at least a couple of months. There are just too many things that take time to be reported (like the CCK charging problem and infrequently used older apps breaking) and there's no going back.
If Apple would support rolling back updates I'd update immediately, even turning on automatic OS updates. They're actually working against themselves and us from a security perspective by not providing real backup/restore and version rollback.
In my case I don’t own one so didn’t experience that. However, it is a pretty serious one and surprised that made it into a release.
I sometimes have longer periods when i do not make any music at all. Maybe it was in that period. What a lucky Apple Fanboy i am :-))
I think updates had a far worse effect 2 or 3 to 5 years ago (i didn’t have an ipad before then).
Its unwise to have an unsecure device online if you avoid updates. So maybe keep it offline if you don’t.
I don’t want to scaremonger but we are living in times where hacking and fraud can happen on a grand scale.
I’m still on 15.1 and was more than happy to stay there, until I bought a couple of apps this morning, both of which crash immediately upon opening. The dev quickly got back to me when I messaged him and suggested that I could update OS to 15.5.
When I go into my settings the only available update is the latest one, which I don’t really want to do.
Anyone know if/how I can update to 15.5?
If you want to know why I don’t just upgrade to 16.6, just take a deep breath, put a record on, enjoy your life…forget about this post.
Apple only provides the latest version of iOS via software update. You might be able to download to macOS as shown here: https://osxdaily.com/2022/05/16/ios-15-5-update-download-ipsw/
But to do it this way you have to have a Mac.
No problems for me on 16.6
Home$hit is a clusterF&*%! It worked for me for about two weeks. I setup Homebridge on a Raspberry Pi to link all of my Amazon Alexa devices. Everything was working well but suddenly stopped working. I spent 3 hours on the phone with Apple tech support engineers. They finally admitted that it was a known problem which would most likely not be fixed until the next software update which was at that time 3-4 weeks away. The next update did not resolve the problem nor the next, nor the next and the problem persists to this very day. The troubleshooting process for Homekit is idiotic and random. Reboot the AppleTV, reboot all of your ipads, make sure each phone is running the latest and greatest OS. Then after jumping through all of those hoops the $hit still doesn't work! Get it together Apple!
