PLASTIK KOFFINS - w.i.p album

This is my work in progress album, halted by my recent side project. Inspiration are Rorschach psychological test cards, symmetrical inkblots used on prisoners.

    Haunted Palace vibes on the first one, a degraded, rusty vibe, interesting….

    “And travellers, now, within that valley,
    Through the red-litten windows see
    Vast forms that move fantastically
    To a discordant melody;
    While, like a ghastly rapid river,
    Through the pale door
    A hideous throng rush out forever,
    And laugh—but smile no more. “

    You certainly have a distinctive signature. The second sounds like music playing on the cheap radio the sadistic serial killer listens to whilst slowly carving up the screaming tourists he captured in his deep woods murder dungeon.

    Number 3, some kind of Berlin DAF-style industrial disco party circa early 80s in a warehouse near the wall, heard from the warehouse next door.

    Number 4, great percussion sounds, and unexpected samples. Reminds me a little of Coil but really, at least for my frame of reference, it is Sui generis.

    Sidenote: I have been known to use Rorschach cards myself professionally in my therapist days. Not in the coercive, overly prescriptive/reductive way they were initially deployed, and you reference here, but rather, as a medium, like sand tray work, or even collections of postcards, for collaboration between therapist and client, a means to allow less emotionally accessible or verbally articulate clients to project onto the image, and thus find ways to access complex states of emotion that they might otherwise find difficult to express.

    Any sufficiently large and various abstract collection of objects or images can be used in this way, (there is a reason Tarot cards remain popular, and it is not for their divinatory power!), as it is the meanings that the client subjectively imputes to an object or image that counts, not a spuriously ‘objective’ definition of what it is ‘supposed’ to mean.

    In memento of those days, I have several framed examples of the rather beautiful Rorschach set I used to use on the walls of my home.

    I admire the uniqueness and coherence of your aesthetic. Look forward to the whole album.

  • Thanks Svetlovska, much appreciated your enthusiasm about this project, and I'm happy that I have someone who actually worked with Rorschach test cards as a listener. The album will contain 10 tracks, as you obviously guessed, according the 10 test cards. Right now I'm focusing on my other project Para Verse, I think the set of this project will be an EP or mini-album so if you're eager to listen the continuation of PK's Par-delà Les Pôles, it will takes at least few weeks, but maybe I'll write few songs in between.
    Thank you again.
