Any trusted 3rd-party online-sellers for Apple gift-cards in Europe (Spain)?

Very frustrating to not be able to put multiple items into a cart...and pay via Paypal's 3-payment scheme. Ao I thought perhaps it'd be an idea to pay for gift cards using PP's payments and buy the apps (This presumes I keep the remainder of unspent gift-card credit?).

I came across certain sites that have discounts and seem to work with Paypal, but I have no idea whether they're reputable. My browser denied access to follow the links. Discounts would be nice, but the Paypal bit is more important. If I can get both without risk then great!

Any ideas?

  • I'd never go further than Target, Costco or Apple themselves. You may have similar big box retailers in Spain which are trustworthy and could be relied on to provide a refund if something goes wrong. I'd not put any trust in resellers you can't visit in person.

Would be great to be able to buy from a bricks 'n' mortar store, but then I can't take advantage of Paypal.

Been looking at this one. Seems legit, but not in any position to take any kind of loss.

Hopefully someone here will have some user-experience with this place,

    Thanks :)

I think they're looking for discounts. Those are not frequently offered by Apple.

  • Yea I agree with @NeuM i either go through apple, or only reputable institutions in your country.

Also in order to use PayPal as your main/default purchasing source for loading money onto your account or buying apps, after your Apple account balance you must make sure it is first in the list of payments. In settings app, click on your name at the top, then click on payment & shipping, then you will have a list of whatever payment options you have added like a credit card or PayPal, etc… from there you can add a payment method if needed. Then to make it your default payment method put you’re preferred payment method first in the list by editing the order. If that helps at all.

I recently earned a couple visa virtual gift cards, and this is what I did to put the balance onto my apple account. Cheers.

Thanks! But while discounts would be nice, it's the payment plan I'm really interested in. Any PP purchase over 30 Euros can be split into 3 payments. But because there is no way in the appstore to stack purchases in a cart, to reach that amount, nor to even interact with the Paypal site itself (In cases where a singe purchase exceeds the minimum amount) I can't choose the option of spreading payments. But if I can find a trustworthy online retailer, that also accepts Paypal, I can still take advantage of the payment scheme albeit up-front.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I already used to have Paypal linked to Apple. Can't remember why I changed...

Unfortunately, even if I have single purchases that exceed the minimum requirement for a payment plan, Apple just charges Paypal. So I never to interact with Paypal to be able to choose the option.

    Cheers :)

I see. I misunderstood. Yea you can set the order of your your payment options in settings, and if if goes over the amount available on the first option it then charges the second, and so on. But I’m not sure how that would work with the PayPal split payments.

I think it's me not being clear.

At any non-appstore retailer, I can combine products in a cart. If I hit the 30E minimum I can choose to spread my payments from my Paypal account. But on the appstore I can't combine products in a cart to hit that minimum Paypal spend. Moreover, even if I wanted to buy one app that cost 35E, because the appstore doesn't actually give me any interaction with PP during the transaction, it will always charge the total amount today.

So what I'm trying to do instead is buy, for example, 50E of Apple Gift-Card credit using a 3rd-party vendor that uses Paypal (Neither Apple or Amazon do), and paying that amount over the 3 payments.

It seems that Paypal in the U.S sells Apple gift-cards themselves. Unfortunately this isn't something that's made it across the pond yet ;)

  • I use Klarna for that. I’m in UK, but maybe see if it’s available in Spain. I have used it to create a one-time payment card that has it’s own 16 digit card number and expiry date etc..
Once created, you can add it to your payment methods. Klarna split payment in 3, with the first instalment taken from your bank account (or at least pending) immediately.
Worth looking into, but if it is available there, please be cautious and look into how it works properly. I’d hate to cause you any loss or grief from the recommendation.

  • You can use a PayPal debit card on Amazon…. does that help? 😀

Thanks! This seems interesting. Klarna does exist in Spain (Since 2020, apparently), so it might be an option.

Just to see if I've understood. You can make a bespoke 'dummy' credit-card for any individual purpose, add that to Apple's list of payment options, then any purchase you make with that particular 'card' will automatically be split in 3?

Don't worry...Will look into it a bit further. Just curious if that is the process you're describing.

    Cheers!

    Many thanks!

A preliminary search seems to suggest that it wouldn't be possible to use with the Appstore, as it would still necessitate being transferred to the Paypal site to select 'Pay in 3' as an option. If ther card were intended solely as a split-payment option, done automatically on payment, it wou;d be fine.

Will look a little deeper into it, as it might offer some other benefits.

    Cheers!

That’s it, yes. I use the Klarna iPhone app. I have a Visa debit card on the account. When you go to a “store” within the app, you can select a product and if it meets the minimum price requirements (normally £30 here) you choose the option to pay with Klarna, choose one-time card pay in three, confirm the total amount for the card and Klarna will split it into 3 and show you what you will pay over the three payments. You can also choose to pay at any time for 2nd and 3rd instalments.

In the case of the Apple App Store, if you search for Apple in Shopping or Stores, inside Klarna app, while you are on the Apple Store page, if you tap the little pink Karna icon bottom left, it will let you set up a pay in 3 one-time card for (eg.) £30, which you can use as you wish, (4.99 for this, 14.99 for that etc.) once you have copied the card into your Apple payment methods in your Apple ID settings. Hope this helps, I’m not brilliant at explaining stuff 🤔🍻

  • Oh and make sure the one-time Klarna card sits at the top of the payment options list, as that’s the payment method that will be selected by default.

    Thanks again!

I did actually set up an account and downloaded the app. Navigated to the Applestore, and did a dummy-run of a 50e gift-card. Unfortunately, when I got the stage of hitting the little pink icon, I was informed that they weren't partnered with the Applestore. Strangely, and somewhat contradictorily, it then says once they get to know me better, I'll be able to shop anywhere with Klarna (Perhaps I should invite them 'round for dinner?).

I've not got as far as working out how to set up a one-time-payment, though. I wonder if I'll be blocked from doing that as well.

    I see. Right on.

I think part of the reason I wasn’t quite grasping it is because I try to avoid payments being split up on most smaller purchases, as a general rule, in an effort to avoid potential fees/interest. I know it sometimes it makes sense or can be financially necessary, but for stuff on the App Store I just save up until I have enough. Sorry for confusion.

  • I think the trouble might be with the gift card bit. I’m struggling to remember exactly how I got this to work, but I know I couldn’t purchase actual gift cards from Amazon or direct from Apple. I just created the one-time credit card thing while I was in the Apple Store page within the Klarna app, without specifying what I’d be using it to pay for. I wish I could give you clearer advice, I would go through the process again myself to pay more attention and take notes, but I have a bill with them that needs paying off first. Otherwise I think I would have been tempted to use this method to get the SynthMaster 2 All Expansions Pack on sale at the moment. Probably for the best 😪😁

The cool thing with PP's 'Pay in 3' is that there aren't any fees or interest. I suppose it's a bit risky, in the sense that it might make it easier to spend more than intended. But I've been using it for over a year with a few desktop purchases and have managed to be pretty controlled with it.

Funnily enough, the first app I was thinking of buying with a gift-card is SM2. Unfortunately, I cocked-up the other day, by buying the 'PRO' unlock for SM Player version. I hadn't realised that SM2 was on sale (I'm sure I set an alert). And seeing as I have the player version unlocked on desktop, I'd already have those presets compatible with SM2 iOS. Unfortunately, my refund was declined. now I'm just waiting on my appeal.

A word of caution, though. If you buy the presets packs via the iOS version, they're cheaper...but they aren't compatible with any of the desktop versions. The compatibility only works one-way. So if you want banks to work on desktop and iOS (I believe they'll also be compatible in the upcoming SM3, also) then it's best to buy them via kv331's desktop site.

Don't worry too much about testing through Klarna. I would be curious to know, at some point. But I think I might try buying the cheapest card from the website I linked to earlier, and trust that if I get scammed that Paypal will help me out.

    Many thanks :)

  • I’ll be sure to pay attention next time I use Klarna for the App Store and update here. For me, and my very limited budget, it’s great to be able to split £30 of apps, when an intro sale or just a regular sale takes you by surprise and you want to take advantage

Thanks for the KV331 tip, although I’m hoping the urge will pass. I really don’t need another 2000 presets 😂🍻

I think there's definitely an argument to be made that if someone (Thinking preset lover/tweaker) wanted to keep a minimal set of instruments, something like SM2 would be a solid recommendation, given the wealth of sounds it comes with and that are available as expansions. But if you already have more than a handful of synths, or are working in a specific genre, it might be worth choosing just a handful of suitable packs. I'm really looking to it for the straight EDM stuff, as my collection lacks in that area.

It's definitely worth signing-up for their mailing lists, as sometimes they have really good deals. A while back they did a sale where it was possible to choose 9 packs, for $25. Couldn't afford it at the time, but hopefully it'll come around again. Having said that, i'm not sure whether the desktop versions can be registered straight to iPad or whether they need to be registered on desktop first.

Anyway, I appreciate your help and would definitely be happy to receive any updates you're able to post.

    Cheers :)

Interesting, indeed! Now go forth and BUY!...MORE!..APPS! ;)

  • Well that didn’t take much… MoogerFoogers happened and now I’m £40 poorer.
On the plus side, I took a load of screenshots of the Klarna process, so I hope you can either have success or at least rule it out as something that won’t work for you..

    1. Open Klarna app and search Apple

    2. Click on Apple Store link

    3. Hit pink “Pay K” button

    4. Pay with Klarna

    5. Enter the total amount of your App Store purchase

    6. Continue & Review

    7. If you’re happy, confirm & continue, and one-time card will be created

    8. Done. Now just copy card details into Apple ID new payment method, and make sure before you hit purchase in App Store that this card is at the top of the list, above any other payment method

  • @PDK said:

Haha! They always get ya, in the end ;)

Thanks so much for such a comprehensive walkthrough. Gave it a go, but still couldn't get past the first stage:

Will have a look into it, to see how many 'partner' purchases qualify. Actually might contact their support, just to make sure that I would eventually be able to shop directly at Apple España.

Will update when I have a bit more clarity. But thanks again :)
