Got new iPad, transferred data from my old one, stuff missing...

Bought a new iPad, did the transfer from my old iPad. You know, the thing that Apple says just works...well, it didn't...
Honestly, I'm not sure if it's Apples fault though...

Problems so far:

  • Audiothing Noises, it says that the samples are there but I had to download them again
  • AudioDamage Quanta, lost my Hainbach presets :/

Slightly pissed off...

  • On a lighter note...Audiothing Gong is amazing!

  • While I was on holidays I bought a new ipad, and I did that quick start thing on really bad wifi, and it worked. I was able to (somehow) delete big apps that were downloading but that I didn’t need (like books and photos). All important (small) apps transferred seamlessly

But then when I got back from holidays, I wanted to restore some of big apps, now with proper wifi, and the process was a nightmare. I think it has to do with authentication problems. Halfway through the process it freezes and then gives a generic error. I tried doing the whole configuration process first but it makes no difference, it comes a point it leaves you with no option but reset, and there you have to force shut the new device (soft shut the old afterwards usually brought the transfer screen back)

In the end I used up iCloud cause apple told me they’d lend me the space needed for the migration (which was nice). Took a while but I’m all sorted.

Btw, today I received a notification from apple telling me my 21 days lending period was over

  • Best way to do it is to connect the old iPad to the new iPad with a direct cable connection. That has worked every time for me.

If I remember correctly, the Hainbach presets were eventually incorporated with the Quanta Factory presets, and they arrived via an app update, so check the Factory folder for a Hainbach subfolder.

Wow! I never knew you could do that! So if I have an old iPad with a lightning connector & a new iPad I just bought, do I just connect with a lightning to usb-c & it just transfers everything?..

Yes. I've done it at home and I've had it done the same way at the Apple Store. It's faster than wireless or via iCloud backup or whatever.

In my understanding you have to backup any kind of extra files, like added samples or presets, that's inside each apps folder, often a good bit of work.

If anybody knows how to access files of apps that don't share all user's files then please let me know.

Not if you do a direct device connection with a cable.

It would had been good to know, didn’t see that mentioned on apple docs anywhere.
But might come handy when I upgrade my phone.
Where do you get a lightning to lightning cable? Regular usb to lightning cable plus a CCK connector (I have one)?

Yes, if you're connecting two lightning connection iPads then you'll need Apple's Lightning-to-USB or Lightning-to-USB-C, plus an adapter for the second Lightning connection.

I’ll try this when I upgrade my phone

  • Well, it looks like the new iPad needed a good nights sleep because now the Quanta presets are back...weird... :o
