Andrew Huang's Flip Sampler Update 1.4 is out - featuring a new Looping Envelope

Flip Sampler, the sample-based music making app conceptualized by music producer and YouTuber Andrew Huang, has just been updated to version 1.4. The update adds new stock projects, over 100 new stock samples, and the much requested new feature, the Looping Envelope.

Flip Sampler, now in its third year on iOS, also made a quiet Android debut in November 2022, and thanks to great feedback many improvements have been made there since.

So still no AUv3, sorry folks. But maybe you owe another (cheap) Android device and want to give Flip a try there also. There are not so many powerful music apps for Android yet imho.

I absolutely love ElasticDrums sampler so this is pretty gosh darned sweet! :) The lack of looping was the only thing holding me back. Time-stretching and pitch-shifting would be icing.

Oh and I love the separate loop lengths for automations, very sweet indeed!

Can someone remind me where the purchased iap packs are accessed?

They are not available anymore. Should be on your device though, so maybe backup for safety

  • Android’s got Koala

Sure. I count that as one of the few useful music apps for Android

Alas I’ve just reinstalled Flip, so they’re gone. still listed as IAPs on App Store though.

  • Respect for android, hope all bugs are polished. Any chance for better fx, delay longer than 500ms and removal of unswitchable limiter?

Write us an email which ones you miss and we'll send them to you.

You are right. I disabled the IAPs in the store

Thanks. Yeah, almost all Android bug should be polished, was a tough experience (still is).

"unswitchable limiter" ? The switch does not work for you or you hear no effect?

  • Hell yeah! Thanks Oliver!
Also have it on android. Great pairing with G-Stomper and Zolotov's apps and arranging on Audio Evolution (or Zenbeats, but I treat it more as an instrument lately)

Then I just send the projects to iOS for further polishing on either DAW
Now anxious for Elastic Melody

Mmmm, would love some of the Elastic Drums Fx, slurp.

Yeah, you push sounds into limiter no matter what the settings are. There is no way to overdrive the master bus, means something is wrong with the routing. Would be also grateful for better master reverb

Are you saying that you want the limiter to distort when you push it?

No, I want to turn it off when the switch is deactivated. It doesnt. Try pushing gain on sounds and mixer and you will see it still hits the limiter.

Still need tons of debugging. Example, in keyboard mode hold the left top key, and try pressing lower keys - you will get glitchy response to touch (notes not triggered), while in single touch way (stop holding the upper note) all good. Delay pinpong button working in reverse sometimes or not doing the pingpong shit, and so on. I am not yet speaking about piano roll which will 100% bring you a crash if you spend up to 20 min in there. Sad, it has potential, but this unreliable stuff plus bad effects turns one off.

  • @elasticdrums any chance to make the Android build to run on Android 7.x devices ? I have two older tablets, both on Android 7 and sadly Flip does not show up as compatible on the Play Store.

I just tested a kick track with a mix of velocities on the kick. Turning the limiter off was clearly different from when the limiter was on.

Perhaps you can post a demonstration that shows the problem you are having.

  • How can one saturate a sound before mixer? Not possible unless turn gain into bitcrush with zero settings (which is kind of strange saturation) but then you have no gain control before mixer fader. Lot of work still to put into it to make usable. Effects of chorus are sooo subtle, whats the point. I am saying it as I actually like the concept a lot, hoping the dev will hear. Thank you

Man just try to do the same in other daw so your master volume will go well into red. You will understand the difference. Also there in no master level indication LOL

    ???

You said that there is no difference with the limiter deactivated or not. That just isn't true. Turning the limiter on, clearly has an effect. Different limiters are designed to have different impact.

If there is a specific effect/impact that you want, demonstrating what you want will help the developers consider whether it is something that they want to add. Saying that there is no difference with the limiter on or off doesn't help convey whatever point you are trying to make -- since the limiter clearly does provide limiting -- which is clearly audible if you have it set correctly.

  • I definitely recommend this one. I’ve had it since not long after the release and it’s super fun and quick. The pattern chaining is easier in this app than most other apps and grooveboxes I’ve tried. And the automation section is cool as hell.

Really great update @elasticdrums! Thanks for the continued support on it.

I didnt said there is no difference. I said when you turn in off, the sound is still being run through a hidden limiting mechanism (another or same, hell knows whats there in the code) and it doesnt sound anything close like clean master bus where all tracks are summed straight into amp. Because no matter how hard you push you cannot achieve master clipping. Is it clear now?

Unfortunately, that doesn’t work for me—either to delete pattern from the sequence or to clear a pattern pad. I’m using an iPhone.

    Thank you @HotStrange 😀

It took quite a while for this update ... but I think the new looper envelope sounds so unique, especially in combination with Flip's great automation possibilities, that it catapults Flip in another dimension!
Well, I just love these gnarcy, grainy sounds, I have to admit ;)

It's a bit fiddly on an iPhone. I just tried on my iPhone 12, which has one of the smallest screens and it worked. You have to drag to a position where the trashcan gets blue.
Okay, I have to admit it's really a bit difficult. Maybe we offer a second delete method, with just tapping the trashcan.
