AUv3 MIDI Chord detection plugin like "Simple Chord Detection" VST?
Hi folks,
Do you know any AUv3 plugin for MIDI chord detection like this Simple chord detection VST is?
https://www.ultimatemidiplugin.com/product/Simple Chord Detection
I'm using it in Reaper, really like it and I would like to have something similar on my iPad and GarageBand. As a guitarist I don't need any sophisticated solution but just to know what I'm exactly playing on my MIDI keyboard.
Thank you in advance.

Hell, it'll even give you fretboard diagrams for the detected chords. 😎
Wait. I'm not sure it (or any other MIDI AUv3 plugin?) will work in GarageBand though.
I'm afraid you are right. I have only one MIDI app (Numa Player) to check right now and it is not detectable as plugin in "Audio Unit Extension" tab inside of MIDI track in "Plug-ins & EQ".
BUT I can use Numa Player as software instrument inside of GB (new track, External, Audio Unit extensions) so maybe there is a second way ... Is there any other virtual piano-keys-pads instrument which shows chords during playing? I'm aware there are so many limitations in GB but I still like it because of its smart instruments.
So are you only in GB? No Midi effects is, imo, the one big thing that’s missing. I guess they saved it for Logic lol.
Can’t think of anything offhand that isn’t a midi effect. Maybe someone made one for MiRack, Drambo, or Audulus that could chime in?
Yes.
I have found this on Tonality page: "Please note that GarageBand does not currently support MIDI plugins such as these."
So I think this case is closed.
You can use> @filo01 said:
If you are using an external midi keyboard you can route both to GarageBand and drambo for example where you can load tonality chord recognition
Afaik you don’t have it on the stand alone so you will need Drambo, however you could capture your played chords on the chord pads that areavailable on stand alone tonality and it will tell you the chord name
@cokomairena Thank you. Drambo looks more like sequencer than routing app. I guess I can use Audiobus or AUM for the same purpose too?
Meanwhile I have found this older thread with the same topic. My fault. I will have to search more precisely next time. https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/28347/any-app-that-detects-midi-chord-input/p1
I also have found there is a Tonality rep user here @TonalityApp so maybe he/she can provide some hint?
Yeah use whatever you like! I like drambo because you can open it on a slide over
And I'm not talking about routing the midi through drambo to GB, but to recieve the midi separated in both programs
Also tonality detects chrods from audio, so maybe it's simpler to just up the volume
Unfortunately so. Have you considered trying Logic? The UI isn’t too far removed from GB.
No I don't like subscription model.
Fair enough. I think it’s a good deal for what it offers but I know how some people are with subscriptions. I don’t mind them for certain things.
I found usable temporary workaround.
Free version of MIDIculous app shows MIDI chords during playing and it can also hosts other instruments including my favorite NumaPlayer.

will tonality work fine within Logic Pro on IOS ? I;'m guessing it's just added as a midi fx. ?
I've moved from GB to Logic and wouldn't go back now. Still though GB was superb, but the flexibility of Logic is great. As for sub, I hear the OP concern and dislike - for me I just look at is a any other sub, whether it's streaming service or just buying a pint once a month
Tonality all day, it has 4 AU’s packed inside, and one is chord or scale identification.
@matdun25848834 Yup just route your midi through it. So it goes… your midi keyboard or whatever, to Tonality - Chord/Scale AU, to your synth. Open the Au, and it shows you in real time. And that’s just one of the many cool features in tonality.
Thank you, will give it a go.
