I tried manual last minute bids for a while some years ago. Nowadays, honestly, I just set my bid to what I'm actually willing to pay and then (mostly) forget about it. Sometimes I win, sometimes I lose.

  • Pretty much all my stuff is from bidding on eBay.
Imo it’s all about how much are you willing to pay… don’t know about 3rd party services, but if eBays own auto bidding mechanism kicks in it means your max bid is lower than another max bid. There is only one thing you can do about it… offer more.

  • Get a sniper?

I was about to say this.
I’ve used ezsniper for many years and have been v happy with it.
Perhaps I’ve even outbid the OP at some point…🫣

  • You’ll have to fight fire with fire

Just curious is that free service?

    … , if I offer more , immediately another bid gets posted .I suppose it’s a BOT.

They do take commission if you win, but it’s so little I forget how much. Plus you can just top it up when you need to. It automatically imports your eBay watchlist so very easy to use.

This is the way. If someone is willing to spend more than you are, they’ll win whether you bid your max early or at the last minute. The snipers are wasting their time. I have always—eventually—gotten everything I’ve wanted from eBay this way.

The only exception would be things that are genuinely unique or very, very rare and don’t come up for auction often. And now that I think of it, there’s only two cases I can think of that fall into that category: A Tele/ES-330 hybrid that I did win and a very rare RPG that, when it does appear, goes for crazy amounts that I’m not willing to pay.

The autosniping on eBay is so bad I gave up after I lucked out on getting Deluge on auction.

I think if the kit is unknown or old you have a chance. If it’s popular forget about it.

  • You can’t beat ‘em. I use Gixen, which doesn’t have a commission, just costs about $7 a year, or a free version with an annoying 12 second countdown to log in.
