iPad music Production changed the game for me

I have been making music for many years now, primarily a desktop Ableton user. I seem to often get stuck or non creative using just my desktop setup. When I decided to buy a new iPad and get into IOS music production I started creating again. It’s amazing! I’ve completed so many new songs and they sound far more interesting, both sonically and innovative.
I probably could have also gone the buy all hardware route too, but I still feel IOS is very interesting and more portable. Therefore I don’t have to produce in the same environment all the time, like in a typical studio. Thanks to all here for your help to get me going.

  • Glad you’re enjoying iOS. It’s all I use now after many years of hardware only and hardware + software. It just clicks with me. I feel more inspired, have more fun, and am more creative. And that’s what it’s all about.

I’ll probably get another OP-1 at some point because they make such a good pair but honestly a midi controller and my iPad is all I need.

    👍

feel free to elaborate what is your workflow, what apps you use, what is the essence which inspires you and fuels your creativity

hw is different, you can easily switch between two approaches (small “inconvience” of HW is that it eats much more money :))

I have periods when i use only iPad/iPhone and then periods when i use only HW.

Interestingly using both simultaneously doesn’t work for me, my iPad workflow is very different from HW workflow - i tend to complete full tracks sith automations and polished sound on iPad, where on HW i mostly prepare some patterns and then do live jam with them … I tried to so same with AUM but disn’t enjoyed that, too much scrolling left<->right, too much opening and closing all kinds of windows, i missed the immediacy/hands on/muscle memory experience of HW grooveboxes

I still love jamming in AUM but I agree overall. If I’m making any kind of finished track, it’s on the iPad. I don’t have much hardware anymore as it is, but it’s great fun for jamming. Especially with apps like pocket operators, volcas, etc that all talk to each other easily.
