need help setting up iConnectAudio4+ for live performance
I've been using my ICA4 for a year to share midi/audio between my iPad and Macbook. I am developing a solo act for keyboard/vocals and backing tracks run from my iPad Pro. In my DAW (Logic) I'm currently panning all music tracks left and the click track right. Then for Outputs 1 & 2, I'm only using "1" (left) and then splitting that left channel cable using a Y adapter cable to send the Left channel to both speakers. The click channel is panned to the right and I can hear the click using my headphones which are receiving both left and right outputs. I wonder if there's a better way to do this, because I really only using one of the 4 outputs on the unit. For example, could I make full use of outputs one and two to transmit both left and right channels, and output 3 or 4 for the click which would go to my headphones? I don't pretend to understand how routing works. After working on it a while I get confused and quit.

Is that headphone + click mix only for yourself or also for other band members ?
The iCA4+ also has a headphone jack, right? Send the main outs to 1+2, click to headphones.
You can also make a separate headphone mix that has the main outs PLUS the click.
Lots and lots of options!
Telefunky, The mix will be just for me. Band of one.
MisterCharlie, Yes it has a headphone jack. How would I make a separate headphone mix? That's what I don't know how to do.
You can setup 2 mixers for „Analog domain“: one for outputs 1-4 and another with added click going to headphones only.
Do you know if there are any videos which describe this process? I need more specifics on how to set this up.
Here‘s a simplified setup, assuming music on ios 1+2 and your click on ios 3+4.
The important part is the zero count of USB submixers, and the 4 in analog submixes (which actually means 4 channels).
It‘s iConfig 4.2.7 on MacMini M1 (Monterey), Rosetta engaged.
Thanks Telefunky. I'm beginning to see how this works. Unfortunately,, I found iConfig to be too unstable to run on my iPad- kept freezing and crashing. I have been able to accomplish independent mixes for my headphones and 1 &2 out using the Auricle for X Series software on my Macbook. I still don't fully understand the layout yet but will keep working with it.
Yes, iConfig is very unstable in IOS. But afaik you can still download the version above for Mac (I was quite surprised it worked on M1).
You may try ReConfig (IOS), free download from app store. It‘s an Open Source project since iConnectivity ceased support on iConfig and released the source code.
The routing above may be misleading for it‘s identical channel numbering on IOS side and mixer input. The numbers are not related to each other. Using IOS 7+8 for the click would have made it more obvious.
For example If you add Mac 1+2 to Analog Mixer 5+6 this will play, too.
The crucial part is to mute (or pull faders down) for the click track on mixer 1 (not shown) that has anlog outs 1+2 as destination.
Whenever you change channel numbers in Audio Info, it will wipe the routing and pull all faders down.
Telefunky- Thank you again for your comments. I'll be candid . I have read over your postings multiple times and this is just way over my head. For now I'll keep using the Auricle app on my Macbook as it offers a very simple interface to accomplish what I want to do.
The routing matrix isn‘t that complicated, just takes some time getting used to.
But the Audio Setup page is quite confusing (number of mixes, direction, some values can‘t be selected or toggle, etc)
You may use it as shown, it delivers 2 mixer panes and in one of them you mute the click.
It‘s worth getting used to because it‘s very powerful, exceeding 2 Adat Interfaces, saves 4 TosLink connectors and is more flexible to setup.
Of course it‘s your choice, so do as you like
Looking at the audio mixer and patchbay in the above images, I don't see Headphones listed as a mix destination. How can you tell the signal is going there?
headphones is a destination, HL HR
Yes. Or to be more precise: your destination is the Analog Mixer, set to 2 output pairs.
The mixer itself has 10 channels (5 stereo).
It exists on 2 tabs, one for analog out 1+2 and 1 for headphones HL+HR.
Both tabs are served simultaneously, so you can mute the click on tab one, while hearing the click in your headphones.
Although the analogue mixer doesn't have to be used. you can completely bypass it.
Agreed, but this appeared to be the most simple (and obvious) setup for this specific task.
(getting all other mixer tabs out of the way and have a compact routing)
