The Last Train / Vangelis

edited September 2023 in Creations & Collaborations

I am sending a minimalist soundtrack prepared for the needs of my friend's animation - competition work at the demoparty convention last weekend. Garageband + Synthmaster One.

It was a nostalgic journey listening to this beautiful work! 🤩

  • I enjoyed the music and the video. Great work!

  • I really enjoyed this. I think the video, being done in only black and white is the minimalist part. Your soundtrack is freaking huge and complex, and really contrasts with the visuals in a great way. I hope you won the competition. You got my vote.

  • Great mix. Sounds great!

  • Sounds like Amiga demoscene music with a touch of Vangelis epic too. Love it.

    Dear @Luxthor, @AlterEgo_UK , @Paulieworld , @reezygle and @belldu Thank you for your comments. I'm glad you like it :)

@Paulieworld Thanks for your vote, we won by a few points ;)

@belldu Good shot, I'm a fan of Amiga computers / society and the Demoscene as an observer since I was a teenager. I'm a big fan of Vangelis as well :)

There were 17 different competitions at the party including 4 music only and 7 combined with music. A LOT of great entries! Under this link should be uploaded works to watch and to listen.

  • Lovely work, both audio and visual. You can tell your a fan of Vangelis… which is a good thing 👍

  • Quite quite nice . I really like your friend video too, and you complemented it well.

  • Beautiful, epic-sounding soundtrack. Love the bass synths, and the Vangelis-like leads.

  • The music is nice, but the video is amazing! Nice work!

  • The video is amazing, and the music works really well with it. Excellent!

    Exactly my thoughts too!

This made me nostalgic. I like this innocent/retro synth music. Well played, literally 🙂👍

Edit: just watched the video version. Even better! Great combo 👏

    Dear @GeoTony, @Blipsford_Baubie, @richardyot, @Edward_Alexander, @bygjohn, @Bob and @ervin

Thank you so much for the comments and for appreciating the animation and the music. I passed to my friend you really like the video layer :)

As for Vangelis I didn't think about it in this piece. But I made another 2 shorts and I hope I captured at least a small part of Vangelis style in it. Links below:

    1) Garageband only

    2) Garageband (+Factory +Syntronik +Synthmaster Player)

    Have a nice Sunday B)

  • This is good. Gave it a second listen immediately after the first.

  • Sonically and visually excellent!

  • Really enjoyed the Meeting with Vangelis track. Lovely warm synth sounds.

  • You nailed it with Meeting with Vangelis, not just with timbre and phrasing, but the key change sequence too. I plan to explore his style at some point in the future too. I'm excited by the prospect of going 'off grid' with timing again. From what I've seen / heard, he just played things and recorded them, shaping the phrases and timing to his mood. Quantisation, nope. Fixed tempo, nope. Just feel it and play it.

    Dear @michael_m , @LeeB, @GeoTony and @belldu Thank you, I appreciate it.

@GeoTony Sorry that your comment was removed on SoundCloud, but I updated last 2 files on SoundCloud, because previously uploaded was destroyed by GrandFinale2 "Gentle Master" setting. To be honest I don't have a good ear for mastering and I try different defeault presets. Now uploaded directly from Garageband.

@belldu Thank you, it is very nice, and You right - Vangelis was exceptional. His spontaneous and unique way of creating was extraordinary. It is best demonstrated on video at the end. I also wish to hear Your (and Others) exploration of Vangelis style in Creation tab.

Finally a quote from some text: "How long does it take Vangelis to compose and record an album? Exactly how long it lasts." :D , and this is very true.

  • No problem… do you know you can replace the audio file in SoundCloud without losing any listens / comments etc ?

Thank you for the tip. I tried to change the track to save the comment, but I have a free account, and from what I've read, it is possible only with a paid "Next Pro subscription" account. For an amateur like me, free account it's enough for now ;) but I need to take a closer look on that, thank you.
