Copperhead vertical/linear knob mode?
Hi,
4pockets Copperhead is on sale, & I may buy it, but have a quick question before I do -
. Does it have a vertical mode/option/setting for controlling the knobs? Ie, when I move my finger up, the value increases; & when I move it down it decreases?
I love many 4pockets apps, but some I can’t use simply because the knobs jump/skip all over the place, when I use them (eg NuRackFX) - they seem to use a combination of vertical, horizontal (left/right) & rotary movement - which all interfere with each other, causing jumpy movement..
Thanks for reading 🎛

EDIT & bump
Let me check.
I dont see an option to change knob behavior after a quick check, but the knobs work with up and down movement by default. They are actually pretty smooth and you have the option to choose between 5 different knob styles.
This is in standalone
If you hold on a knob and drag right or left it will also increase and decrease values. But if you simply swipe up or down it works well moving the knobs around.
There are a couple knobs, on other 4P apps that can be a little finicky, now that you mention it, like the swing on Digistix 2. Amazing app, but that one knob can be hard to dial in. I bet if we reach out he would fix it.
Hopefully that helps.
Apparently they work either way, up down or Left right.
now you got me overthinking this, lol.
I don’t have nu rack, I will say they are pretty smooth on copperhead. After 5 minutes of just turning knobs, lol, I had a couple minor jumps, but they were extremely minimal, and rare. The normal was smooth. I like copperhead, lots of features built in, really good sound, a great patch randomizer, etc…
The in app help doesn’t have a ton of info, but it does have links to PaulTheMusicMan YouTube channel where he does a whole series on the app. Maybe you will get some better info there, or maybe someone else can chime in…
Also the best way to reach him directly is by commenting on his YouTube channel, you can directly ask him on a copperhead video and see what he says. Paul is actually pretty responsive if you reach out via YouTube. Cheers.
Thanks for the reply @Poppadocrock 👍 & for taking the time to test this - I have Digistix2 - & just tested the knobs & for me they are all really jumpy/skippy (not just the Swing knob). So I'll pass on Copperhead for now - Thanks again for helping me make the decision 😀. Also, I would try contacting Paul on Youtube, but for me he doesn't always reply.
One thing I would like to add, is that the way I turn the knobs is for automating quick changes - eg swiping up/down really quickly & repeatedly & getting a fast rhythm for cutoff for example. HST, even when trying to get small changes I find 4pocket knobs v.inconsistent, eg for Digistix - I tried to dial in the precise bpm with the tempo knob & it just jumps all over the place - I can do it, but it takes ages & isn't enjoyable..
Anyways, thanks for reading, wishing you all the best 😺
Cheers. I will say Copperhead is a pretty sweet synth, and personally don’t find them to be that much of an annoyance, the majority of the time they moved very smoothly. It’s hard for me to say if they will be an issue for you.
I wish a few others would chime in to get some kind of consensus.
In DS2 I barely use the knobs, other then swing, since I always sync to host, and use mostly external fx with it. For me DS2 is mostly about making multi velocity or round robin kits, then sending midi in or using the sequencer.
Yeah for me they’ll definitely be an issue. I've read here that some people don’t mind them, & actually find them accurate, giving instructions on how to use them..But all I want is a setting to switch them to respond to vertical movement only & that’d most probably fix this issue for me (no instructions would be required either!) Totally welcome anyone else to comment on this too..
Also, I love many of 4pockets apps - Multi Track Audio Reorder, Neon, & especially Helium are excellent. I know some people don’t like these, but I love ‘em! I especially think Helium is a work of pure genius, how Paul fitted so much functionality into an iOS AUv3 that works great on both iPhone & iPad is way beyond me 😻
