Phase Monkey & BlipBox: Walkthrough Vid & Giveaway

Phase Monkey & BlipBox: Walkthrough Vid & Giveaway

These apps will launch about an hour from now, maybe sooner. I will add links & details etc to the pinned YouTube comment after they launch, which will be at 7am GMT today! I will also add giveaway details and links to those giveaways on various platforms - in total 5 winners will win copies of the app of their choice, either Phase Monkey or Blip Box.

Note that links in YT vids is are provided for your viewer convenience only. - Apple stoppped its affiliate program years ago, but it seems that many people are still under the impression that they are somehow helping iOS YouTubers by clicking on their links - not true, unfortunately, which is why I encourage people to support me through Buy Me a Coffee or PayPal if they have the means. Links to those can also be found in the pinned YouTube comment 🙏

This vid is a detailed 35-minute walkthrough of both apps, with timestamps. All I will say for now is that they are both really great - sound great, lovely UIs perfect for a touch device, easy to grok - and I think both will be very popular.

Follow me on Insta, Twitter and Threads by searching for Gavinski’s Tutorials - giveaway posts on those platforms will roll out through today, the Twitter one is already live. Chances of winning are very high for people following me on all platforms.

Will do! Looks like it just came out here so I think I’m about to watch the demo and then (most likely) give them a whirl.

  • Very interesting watch! Really liked the sound of the synth.

What is not clear to me; does Blib Box allows only one sound to be made or can you make a bunch of different sounds layered on the keyboard, and if so, how many?

BlipBox is fully polyphonic and can have a different/unique sound on each of the 16 steps, so it works like a normal drum machine/drum synth. It can also be pushed into insane territory. Both apps can.

  • Y’all know I can help myself and I got them lol.

For the price I couldn’t pass them up and intro sale only lasts for a couple days. Initial impressions: they’re great! These along with the Triplex apps have been my sleeper hits of the year. Both have great interfaces and unique approaches.

For these apps in particular, I’m really digging the sounds. PM can sound anywhere from beautiful to gnarly and BlipBox can sound anywhere from gnarly to more gnarly 😂 (kidding it can do gentle/typical drum sounds too) but it’s great as a noise machine. I think the experimentalists here will enjoy these as well.

Ok, so 16 different sounds can be set up and used with one instance. Great, thanks!

Yeah these along with the Triplex apps are some of my recent faves for sure. If I had to choose I would choose these over the Triplex ones. These have a similar fun and accessible UI and there is some crossover in terms of sound, but more thought has gone into these and they are more versatile and potentially more expressive

Yeah - I thought my vid would have made that fairly clear even though I was generally focusing on one note at a time. The UI reflects at any given time whichever pad is selected and you have 16 separate pads. So, mad possibilities!

  • edited September 2023

Do the pads start on same note as Fac drum?

Wish I had more outputs over usb now but 8 tracks are ok.

    The joys of dual ipads.

I use Drambo but Fac is c2 in Aum.

    Thanks Gav.

  • How do you adjust sound if it switches screen when triggered ?

  • Press and hold pad then select "Set Focus" :)

So the screen dosent switch ?

What pad is first pad triggered via aum?

    C2?

    Thanks rygob

  • We decided to lay out the kits roughly according to the General MIDI standard, so the main kick is on C2 (note number 36) and there is a secondary kick on note number 35. Should work nicely right out of the box with Octachron and Rozeta xox.

  • Congratulations on the 2 new apps @rygrob they look and sound great! Cheers!

    Bought.

Can set first note to c2

Not sure how it works even with set focus or other settings.

If its an app to be midi triggered.

Why not the screen buttons just flash and not trigger but when you select a screen button.

    You adjust parameters.

Is there any functionality this way?

I think it works very well the way it is set up - even if you are feeding a bunch of different notes into it, as long as you long-press one pad and then press ‘set focus’, the view will stay locked to this pad and you can tweak it while other pads are playing. Then when you want, you just long press a different pad, ‘set focus’ on that one, and tweak it

    Thanks.

    Works good this way.

Its like Skiiid which I send to beatcutter.

Will buy the other app now.

Oh sweet! Should also work with the Xequence apps then as well. Thanks for doing that. Wish all drum machines did lol

You can very easily customise what midi is sent out from the Xequence pads AU!

Yeah Xequence Pads is excellent if all the updates the dev mentioned happen, it’ll be the best on iOS by far.
