Prevent MIDI Clock from changing Loopy Pro Tempo

So Ableton Link does not send song position information, which I think is a bummer because I’m using DAW controller to navigate the timeline in Ableton and I think it would be neat if Loopy Pros sequencer would follow simultaneously. If I send Abletons MIDI Clock out the DAW controller and into Loopy Pro, I can control Loopy Pro with the controller for a second before the jitter causes a chain reaction where the Ableton Link tempo to jump from 120bpm to +600bpm in a second. What I’m trying to do is slave Loopy Pro start/stop/sync to Ableton Link, but still receive SPP from Abletons MIDI clock without tempo information. My understanding is that tempo from the MIDI clock has to be received in order for SPP to actually work, but Im wondering if it’s possible just to get Loopy Pros metronome to ignore MIDI clock signals, and slave only to Link.

If I understand spp correctly, it relies on the clock ticks to work since it is defined in terms of the midi clock ticks. Why not use midi clock instead of link in this scenario?

  • This is correct. SPP is meaningless without tempo because it's expressed in 16th notes since the start of the song.

If you don't want your clips synchronized to the tempo then set them to be free running perhaps. Also, your jitter and tempo jump to +600bpm signals either a midi loop or a conflict between Link and Midi clock. It's important to use one or the other, but not both at the same time.
