Media Assistant Spectral Audio Editing Test

Quick test of the free Spectral Audio Editor in AAFileBrowser.

In this demo, I remove a string squeak from an acoustic guitar recording on my iPhone.

I would normally do this kind of editing on my Mac - very cool that I can use my phone! Thanks @anhnd101!
(Also, this is free. No subscription is needed to use the Audio Editor.)

Edit: AAFileBrowser has changed to Media Assistant.

  • Very cool! Seems like the developer is giving far too much of this away for free.

  • Can't believe there's an app doing this for free. I have been looking for years for an iOS app to remove those pops, clicks and squeaks from otherwise perfect takes. It is not as smart as with desktop apps though, on your exemple, the process also cuts the ringing of your low E string and makes it feel like you're playing it 2 times.

  • This developer should be hired by Apple. They could conceivably add this to both GarageBand and LP for iPadOS.

  • Awesome! I know the original thread saw a lot of pushback because of the subscription but it’s actually a pretty nice and powerful app. The browser as an AU is a great addition too.

Yep I hope the dev continues to improve the audio editor. There’s a lot of possibilities with this app.

Perhaps! But I’m not sure what their incentive would be to do so.

Same as the incentive for every other developer that updates and improves their apps!

I think if the dev listens to feedback and offers a onetime purchase they’ll see enough sales to maybe justify continued work on it. Their other apps are still getting updated fairly regularly so I’m not sure why this would be the one they decide to abandon but you never know.

  • What manner of sorcery is this?

What baffles me is they released a lot of top features for free.

Yeah it looks like the IAP is mostly for the AU browser. Unless I missed something. I’ll have to go back and check the app.

??? Who said that the approach is to not update the app?

I constantly see speculation by people about what pricing model developers should use with some confidence that they (customer with no knowledge of the time and expense of develop other app and no information about revenue earned) know what will work.

The simple truth is that the majority of developers of the apps you love don’t earn very much from the apps you love.

That is why you see them exploring things like subscriptions.

People are free to choose not to subscribe, but I wish people would be less confident in their “if the developer (who actually has knowledge of the expenses of development and what apps can earn) listened to me, they would find that they would make good income” takes.

Any pricing model they choose will have drawbacks. People don’t seem to accept that the historical pricing model simply has not worked well for most iOS music developers from a financial point of view.

Sticking to the historical model (“ one price forever will work out well if the price is right” plus an occasional IAP) is going to fail most if the time.

i cannot find the app either, which is making me sad, because i did not know about this app, and i could definitely use it

  • Maybe it is a glitch and the app will be back.

My bad - went a bit too fast to make the the video shorter. I hope it’s clear that if I took a little more time and care that the result would be good.

Gone from my AppStore, too. Maybe @anhnd101 is removing the subscription model - I’m not keen on subs either.

If you read back through the messages you’ll see why I asked that. I’m not sure where you’re seeing that people are “speculating with confidence”. We’re just having a conversation about it. No offense to you, but I’ve noticed you chime in with this every time any talk of pricing is brought up and it’s getting a tad bit grating.

We are all VERY well aware of everything you mentioned in this reply, and every other one. Sometimes people can just talk and that’s fine.

  • Hey Paul! I didn't to want implying you did something wrong ! It is actually a great tool. Wondering if you managed to keep the low E string ringing with lighter editing. I wish I could find the app on the Appstore but it still seems gone for now.

Maybe they’re making some adjustments? It’s still showing up in my purchased list. Has the dev replied since it’s been taken down?

Could use this creatively and just play havoc with vocal clips and things

On another note: imo don’t cut out the acoustic squeaks.. people pay money for apps that model them :D

  • Nice feature and cool demo of it in action. I picked this up a couple days ago and really enjoying it.

Haha yeah for the most part I always wanna leave them in too, but every once in a while there’s one that just hits a specific frequency.
