I like, whatever the hell is happening around the two minute mark. It gets moody. More impressive is that you kinda pulled off a conclusion out of all that. I like how you can be very traditional with the staff Pad stuff, and very experimental at other times.
I usually tend to pick a scale for the improvisation and around the 2 minute mark I went “atonal” or used a chromatic scale which in western music encompasses all the scales as options. But you’ll notice I then fall back to patterns to lead your expectations and either complete the pattern or add a surprise.
The ending came about as I just started dialing down the BPM in AUM and it also created some interesting rhythmic dissonance since there’s no real rock steady drummer going on. The audio output of the Lumbeats apps is dialed back but some drums seem to be bleeding through somewhere in my audio routing. Go figure.
This forum open new doors for experimentation. Some of the experiments when re-visited months later sound better because I can’t really comprehend how I rigged things up in AUM. And not knowing lets you just be impacted by the sounds.
We have such a great collection of sound and FX sources now.
This is brilliant.
You created a place
unsettling and irresistible.
Really beautiful work.
Thanks Jeff. Have you been enjoying the Ring? It’s pretty amazing tech.
I appreciate you going through your process.
Thank you for sharing that piece, and I certainly agree with B_B about the process. It really does open up possibilities and with that comes wonder. We heard that.
The Ring?
I have not even had time to eat the candy.
This semester ambushed me and has been chewing away pretty steadily so far.
I do see a signal fire
about two weeks away that whispers
toy time.
I am counting the days
and look so forward to playing with it.
Oddly enough, due to necessity,
I have traded my usual curious monkey with anything that can be made tactile approach for the alien idea of
yes…yes…yes…
first reading the manual.
I feel strange.
nice )
i Love the sound of Lumbeats together - a beautiful bed of drums - but have never thought to use them as melody generators, at least i don't think i have ...
your comment ... "This forum open new doors for experimentation. Some of the experiments when re-visited months later sound better because I can’t really comprehend how I rigged things up in AUM. And not knowing lets you just be impacted by the sounds." ... rings so true for me )
i always Love when i happen to listen to something back, and get that "wow, how did 'i' do that?" )
Maybe the iBassist concept can be 'updated' to, iBrassist, IGutarist, IKeyboardist, etc..
I have absolutely no idea WTF happened between my ears during those 4 minutes, but I absolutely loved it ! More please, you're on something big !!!
I haven’t touched ibassist yet.
Besides changing pitches with scaler I also change pitches in the AUM track controls. So I bassist could sing a melody too.
The BPM in AUM was slow too and it still gets crazy. HIp Hop drummer has swing settings that can really mess things up.
Lumbeats apps let you change the notes, the mix and with Ableton link off you can contrast BPMs. But I still try to contain pitches to some scale so the chaos hints at traditional musical arrangements.
I think a Mozaic script to randomize the notes against optional scales activated by pads or a keyboard worth investigating. I just like the grooves Lumbeats has hand crafted. Changing the settings in them also provides AB contrasting sections but something to shift the Root and Scale on demand would be useful.
Are ok, Jeff ? I hope it's not contagious !
Sounds like mad Voodoo Science (slight return). As long as you don't use your Mozaic script to run mutations on human DNA, please keep posting the fruits of your research. Don't forget to add both fuzz and wah pedal somewhere in the chain, for extra magic

Yep... Refreshing constantly for the Auv3 update.... due this week.
Just being able to have multiple instances will be wonderful. This makes me think that using MIDI exports from any Lumbeats app would also allow be to overlap several virtual Drummers in a MIDI player like Atom 2 or LK. I wonder if decoupling the Ableton link but recording in a sync’ed Atom 2 instances might be a quick way to make overlapping loops?
If you got the patience.. I may lose my creative spirit with that effort..
Great idea. One might also use drum midi to advance a sequencer instead of using the AUM clock to advance it. I know Rozeta Cells will do this.
That’s interesting… It won’t be hard to slip Rozeta Cells into my AUM projects and see what emerges in the melodic content.
Excellent. It’s amazing how your brain picks out little melodies from the overall chaos (not meant to be an insult 😊)
Rozeta Scaler is such a simple app but it’s tremendous for things like this.
Sorry I missed this. I’m hearing Frank Zappa and strong vibes of Ruth Underwood (pun intended). Then Captain Beefheart steps in and does his thing. I hope you put this one in the folder for future fun.
I’ll drop it in there now.
