Serum 2 in development!!
Serum 2 is being developed (potentially soon to release) by Steve Duda (of course) AND Dave Gamble of DMG audio fame (some of the best plugins in the game).
So far confirmed
- New Synthesis types
- More Oscillators
- More Filters
- Changes to modulation system
- Changes to UI (less tabs)
- Serum 2 able to open Serum 1 Presets
Serum was an absolute game changer and was a HUGE part of forming the EDM sound and all the related subgenres over the last 10 + years. I havent been so excited for a synth release in a long time.
Comments
I totally agree how serum had a big role on last decade’s EDM sound. But dude, this is the 20s all over again, we gotta find new ways to twist the hip
thats what im saying! i think they will change the game again.. i expect nothing less from that team. Steve Duda is brilliant, and Dave Gamble is an absolute legend. His algorithms are impossibly good. Widely considered some of the best out there. I dont just think this will be Serum with a new oscillator section, i fully expect a brand new, ground breaking synth.
I know there's that KVR thread, but what is your source? How do you know it's coming soon?
Edit: I may not need a Hydrasynth if this exceeds my expectations.

Thread here in gearspace, Dave is answering some questions.
Wow, did not expect to see Dave on a project like this. Very interested, I use DMG plug ins almost exclusively for my mastering these days. Brilliant stuff.
Nice, let's see what they come up with. Serum changed VSTs and made wavetables mainstream.
exactly. as soon as i saw he was involved, i got wayyyy too excited haha. DMG is best of the best.
Now, of only we had Cthulhu on iOS.
I hope this time they write code the way that it allows porting to iOS at some point
(Steve was once asked specifically about porting Serum to iOS and he said he would do it but it would mean full rewrite of whole code base)
StepPolyArp is as close as you can get.
🤞🤞🤞
But you forgot to mention that "EDM" is a definition of landfill shit generic electronic music. Thank you serum lol
Can anyone ask Steve for an iOS port? 😅
ok boomer, whats good music? bluegrass played with jugs, fiddle and a banjo? Harpsichord recordings from 1920? Please enlighten me.
EDM is a blanket statement used to describe so many genres of incredible electronic music. Sure, there is plenty of "generic" edm, but there are so many unique, ground breaking artist from the scene. The fact you said its shit and generic shows how out of touch you are with the electronic music world.
Regardless, Serum ushered in a renewed appreciation for wavetable synthesis, as well as set a new standard for modulation matrix's, built in FX etc etc etc,
Oh I think something might have gone lost in translation here. In Berlin people wouldn’t call the whole genre of electronic music edm. They simply call it electronic music or just Elektro in german. People here would associate edm music with mainstream electronic dance music like the stuff they play on the radio. David Guetta and stuff like that.
So maybe that’s what rvr was talking about.
Peace restored? Carry on? ✌️
for sure,,, EDM to me and many people i know includes it all at this point. It used to be David Guetta type stuff. now its Dnb, Neuro, Tech House, Techno, Dubstep, etc etc etc. They all have their own categorizations, but fit under the blanket of EDM. sorry if i was too harsh, i have been having a rough couple of weeks
Best to you man.
Maybe Serum 2 will drop soon. Would be a nice little distraction.
I’m listening to almost everything, from tribal basket rattle to Stockhausen. But without electronic music, oh my! It would be a sad world. 😳
There is a gearspace thread with Dave in it
