Aurora

A short track, quickly made using mainly Indian instruments from BeatHawk, Roli Noise and GeoShred

  • Nice change up pitch… different. The “Harmonic” quad that starts the Arabic Scale really has magical powers. I read that it’s also called the “Harmonic Mixolydian”.

If you take C Harmonic Minor which most scale forcing apps provide you can get the Arabic sound by treating the 5th note as the root.

    Harmonic Minor in C
    C D Eb F G Ab B C
Arabic Scale on G (uses the same notes starting from the 5th, G)
    G Ab B C D Eb F G

To minimize Black Keys play it from E - there’s only 1 black key G#
    E F G# A B C D E

  • A nice trip to the Middle East! Apparently the Aurora could be seen in Cornwall last night (not quite so far to travel!)

  • Love the analysis @McD 👍
It was the news about the Aurora being seen in the UK that inspired the title Colin @AlterEgo_UK .
Never seen it but live in hope 😊

  • Nice! Sometimes I feel I hear a Western approach and sometimes something more akin to the scales used in classical Indian music (albeit slightly altered to my ear).

Thanks for the analysis @McD - I’m not really familiar with modes of minor scales, so that’s really helpful to see this.

Some very interesting textures in here. I like the harsh cackling percussion noise, particularly. And the vibe: sort of classical, sort of Arabic, as noted above. I’m not as clever as @McD so I’m just going to say it sounds… Good! :)
