Still Undecided on Audio interface for my Fiddle?
Hi,
So, I've been through a couple "mobile" audio interfaces for my iPad for my violin - and I'm not happy. I'm also greatly cornfuzed. I'm a fiddle player not an electrical engineer.
Is there really any difference from a sound quality and latency perspective between USB B vs. USB C?
I'm hearing there's not a noticeable difference in latency between audio interfaces but I'm not sure.
I see that audio interfaces relatively new on the market that still have a USB B port on them for connecting to the DAW computer. [like the Zoom U-24]
I really want something to put/mount on a pedal board (something mobile or not for desktop)
~~~> I have tried an Omec (by Orange) but I feel like there's noticeable latency
~~~> I have tried the Xtone and while the audio interface was OK, the MIDI processing (it's a combo audio and MIDI pedal) was not customizable; so I'm separating the audio interface and MIDI processing separately and ditching the Xtone
I intend to use AUM and various fx plugins for a "pedalboard"; IRs, reverbs, delays and looping, distortion, synths, etc.
I also use https://www.jamorigin.com/ to convert audio to MIDI - just for creating slow string pads/sounds; not for everything
I will mount the audio interface on the pedalboard along side my volume pedal, my MIDI controller and my Uni USB hub
- The audio out from the audio interface, which will have the processed sound from the iPad will go into a PA system
Please help me choose a super clean, super fast (ultra low latency) that's NOT a home studio interface (like Focusrite) - that's mobile or I can mount on a pedalboard. I have spent hours and hours looking through posts, and I'm still undecided.
Thanks

Latency has nothing to do with the type of USB connector.
What buffer sizes were you using? While there is some variation between interface latency, latency is hugely affected by buffer size AND the plug-ins in use.
To compare interface latency, you want to set the lowest buffer possible AND have no processing (plug-ins, effects of any kind).
I have been using Focusrite Scarlett interfaces with iPad for 10+ years with electric violin, and most of the acoustic violinists in my circle also use Focusrite products - in part because I sell them my hand-me-downs.
For the most compact solution, though, check out the iRig HD X
By the way, the sweetest iPad interface I ever owned was the Focusrite iTrack Dock, but then Apple changed the iPad sizes and connectors
Where will your iPad be in this setup? Will it be attached to a stand?
Well... I hoping not to have to buy a bunch of audio interfaces to compare them. I was hoping for a recommendation to be honest.
If you search, you will see a lot of discussion of interfaces and what people like.
Yes... I have a music stand or mic stand with something that holds the iPad. At my feet I have a very small pedalbarod with 5 things: (1) Audio Interface (2) Volume pedal - used pre-audio interface (3) MIDI controller from Morningstar brand (4) Uni Hub shown below, and all (5) Power supply from Walrus Audio (the Aetos) for the Morningstar and Audio Interface and to power the iPad through the Uni Hub.
