It would be so cool to actually know people nearby in meatspace with the same interests. It was a bounty of riches when I was younger before my twenties in my home town but the older I get the more diluted meatspace gets and the more people just hang with other people who have kids and I dont have any. I have two friends about an hour or two away I meet once or twice a year for lunch. Aside from that pretty much zero real social life. Pathetic!

Online doesn't count for shit and social media stinks. This is the only place I occasionally chatter. Every few months I get desperate and chat someone up on discord but its like eating cardboard.

This is why I live Downtown. It's central to everything, including friends in the meatspace. Sure "online friends are real friends too", yada yada, but it doesn't beat hanging out in real life.

I'm not in the boonies by any stretch, just living generally 'here' is so expensive that people all ended up going far afield just to make ends meet. My local neighbourhood is about 140,000 nice regular folks who do nice regular jobs bit have zero interest in my slice of life/rants and concerns. The last downtown I lived in is now mostly rich trust fund kids, buy/low sell high asshole types and a whole shit load of empty investment properties.

I dunno if I'd call what elon is 'noobing it up' his 44B is pocket change and he just has the equivalent of a model plane he just crashed. he can buy another, or just throw it in the trash.

playing chicken with someone w/ that much loot? everyone is gonna lose.

Well, technically he didn't actually have $44B. He made a stupid offer because he's a buffoon, the shareholders called his bluff because of course they would and to the SEC that offer is legally binding, he tried to back out because he's a buffoon who'd got himself into stupid spot, it went to court and he had to back out of backing out because discovery was making his utter buffoonery public for all the world to see.

And because he didn't actually have the money, he had to go get loans from such lovely people as the bonesaw wielding, journalist killing, Saudi royal family.

The funniest thing about all of this is the stuff that came out in discovery where Jack Dorsey was licking his boots and telling him that he was the only one who could save Twitter, while at the same time launching a competitor to Twitter, and then Musk had to go to him for money because he couldn't afford the price he'd offered. So now Dorsey owns some of Twitter, most of Bluesky, and got a massive payout from the sale. Musk got played like a fiddle.

  • I hate the app compared to Apollo but narwhal still works so I just use that for Reddit still but barely get on. Otherwise I mostly just use forums. I’ve felt a lot more sane being out of the loop of most stuff lately. I think I’ll just bow out of the news cycle from now on when approaching an election year in the US cos I gain nothing from it

and the people that called his bluff...and left when the bluff was called and "paid" for crying "he ruined it"?

theres a whole other section who thinks others got played just as much,.,.,

  • I have no idea what that sentence means, but I'm in no doubt it's supposed to be another declaration of your love for Musk.

the whole thing is rather stupid on every side of that escapade...defending anyone who had any part in it is rediculous. musk or the people that left.

its a giant lulzfest for me. i dont have, nor ever had a twitter login. so its just real life TMZ to me.

Vancouver definitely sounds like a different Downtown than Milwaukee for sure. I used to live in the "suburbs" all my life, and I hardly had any real friends. My life began after I moved here.

heh life is different now. Up until i was in my 20s it was nothing to just meet people in my home town (it was only 33k pop) with similar interests. I'd go on a local BBS and it would be 'Oh you are the six other people in town who have Amigas, make music and like Ministry, Frontline, Skinny Puppy, Enigma, Alan Moore comics etc? Cool, I guess we will all hang out now.' Now people my age are like 'Why are you still talking about Amigas, making music and still like Ministry, Skinny Puppy, Frontline, Enigma etc? Grow up and revolve your life around oversheltered boring kids instead.'

Everyone wants to be a teenager again but no one wants to put in the hard work of stagnation to stay there.

I don’t mean to interrupt or anything but It’s Ironic in A city of 8 million people that no one wants to be near each other, like if someone comes close, your either attacking or running. Most likely running

…and btw.Jim, kids are a wonderful headache . I didn’t think I could do it until I ended up getting tricked on the sly and then I had a bunch of kids running around all of a sudden. It’s a beautiful thing. Maybe less music focus but when you get to to it it’s intense work

I don’t find kids a distraction but an addition. What is usually boring can be wondrous thanks to their presence, and look at songs like “sweet child o mine” , you need a kid to feel those feelings

It’s a tough thing parenthood but it’s rewarding g if you commit to being your best self to be An example for a new little person that looks like you to be his best self and hopefully enjoy a life better than yours

    Quote of the week hahahaha

  • Thanks Metty bot!

  • You know what’s ridiculous. I’m always positive to people online. I don’t negatively engage with someone ever. I often get baited but I usually ignore or block or just shut them up with kindness.

I said something about a very widely unliked artist who is a multi multi millionaire and the biggest band on earth, who doesn’t even care or know I or anyone else in the thread exists. Anyway I just said that guy “sucked” and all of a sudden, the hundreds of likes and positive comments are washed away and ignored

I had a really bad month. I mean a little bit of all kinds of bad news. So if I say an artist sucks, why do people go out of their way to go after you as a user when it had nothing do with them? In other words why comment or reply to me about me, rather than talk about the artist and say “I disagree”

People are such babies online man. That’s why I post here. If I like a song or something I say it’s good. If I don’t , I don’t say anything. The only time I would be critical is if someone was asking about an app to buy and they needed help but I wouldn’t bash a developer (unless they deserve it lol)

Anyway ; just wanted to say this place rules and social media sucks . I get more information here about music than all of social media combined

    Thank you Michael
