Delete Fx Node..... Figured it Out [AUM]

edited September 2023 in General App Discussion

Hi,
I want to delete a node in a channel where I've place some fx. It may be a 3rd party plugin, or a built in fx in AUM.

BUT HOW? The help file is well confusing and not consistent. Long Press?

WHY WHY WHY is it sooOOOOoo hard. Why isn't delete node and (the fx loaded in it) an option when you press the menu pops up on the right.

I played around with AUM a year or so ago - it hasn't gotten any easier to use ;-(

Thanks In Advance

Are you trying to eject a loaded plugin? That's drag left which bypasses the plugin then tapping the eject icon.

If you want to remove an empty node (if there is more than 1), long-press and choose remove slot.

  • Slide the Node to the left and tap the Up arrow. Gone!

  • AUM is incredibly easy to use, what are you having trouble with as far as using it?

Are you just wanting to delete the empty node so it’s not taking up space? Or just delete the FX that’s in the node? The whole channel? I’m confused exactly what you’re wanting to do here.

You can only remove an empty node when there’s more than one FX node in the chain. And it’s super simple to do so.

THANK YOU!!!! I really just wish delete was in the option menu when you tab on a node (loaded with an fx), but extra steps - I got it. THANKS!!

  • NOW.... let me say this, about that..... One AMAZING feature, I LOVE, I LOVE, I LOVE with AUM. Suppose like myself you're building a pedalboard of sorts. When you put an fx or plugin into a node, and you slide the node to left to bypass it - it now is not using any processing power!!! Wonderful, Wonderful, Wonderul.

This means.... my reverb channel can have 4 different reverb plugins, and I keep ones not in use for a particular song in bypass mode, and just slide it, or use MIDI messages to move it from bypass to active. This gives me much, much, much more broader options available in a single session.

So true… just don’t accidentally hit the EJECT up arrow.

I think over the history of AUM that the EJECT came first and the pop up might have been added later. But there’s no reason the pop up couldn’t add a delete except @j_liljedahl may not see the need to have TWO ways to do something.

The best way to see a change in AUM is to invoke the sacred AUM spell… use the @j_liljedahl handle and he typically appears if it’s a good use of his attention.

It used to be in that option menu, but its new location makes a lot of sense. Once a node is selected with long press, it can be deleted, copied or moved elsewhere which is really useful i.e. all those related node editing functions are now grouped in one handy menu.

  • Seems like the thread title could do with a bit of an edit in the light of the new info.

  • I will consider adding "Eject" in the node long-press menu, but as @McD suspected I'm always hesitant to add multiple ways to do the same thing.

The current way of ejecting a node has been there since the start. Actually this eject button and the associated animations was one of the very first things I coded for AUM! :) The long-press menu was first only for pre/post, but was recently updated with the new node copy/move stuff.
