Time Machine - Starting a new computer from a time machine backup

Hi, i got a new Mac Studio, and am wondering if i do a time machine backup of my MB Pro, can i just setup the new Studio using that time machine backup?

Will it copy all of my plugin / app installs? or do i need to manually reinstall everything?

anybody have any experience with this?

  • Normally Time Machine is a no brainer and should restore almost everything. We Mac users should thank god for having this kind of backup solution. The only thing you have to be aware of are product registrations. These might/will get lost and you have to re-register. The best thing is to unregister them before on/for the old computer to not exceed license counts.

  • Normally, licensing of musicsoftware allows you to use one license on a portable device (MBP) and a desktop computer (MacMini) at the same time, without counting against license counts.

  • great, thanks guys! im going to give it a shot. a large amount of my plugins are ilok, so that should help smooth some things out, just hoping the installs all actually work.
